All depends on how well you take the damage, how long/often you fight, and how defensively responsible you are. It's not risk free by any means, but there are plenty of riskier athletic endeavors out there.
of course it is dangerous, it is a full contact sport.. And yes your eyes will suffer in the long run. But if you play football, your legs will suffer, no sport is free of injuries and long term damage. Doing no sports at all is bad for the heart and your overall health. So you have to weigh up the risks and what you gain from them. My advice would be: Try some boxing, as long as you do not exagerate, everything will be fine
I box and im way more worried about my hands than my brain. My brain has been useless ever since I discovered hallucinogens anyway.
very dangerous, one of the most. hitting the skull 12 rounds. Och. horse racing - you fall on your head, you are in a wheelchair for life. major injury rugby - ex rugger players spend their 40s moving like men twenty years older than them. Very stupid sport, and dont even mention bedridden ex-players or the broken necks of schoolboys in scrums.
Sorry for bumping but I would like to get one last question out of you guys, I currently have floaters and got them a couple of years ago. Does sparring make them worse and so on? Do anyone of you guys box often and have they gotten worse?
Depends on how good a boxer you are you get hit you get hurt getting punched in the head does damage no matter if your wearing headgear or not... In pro boxing after 12 rounds a doctor will happily tell you the affects on the brain..mainly swelling. Broken jaw Broken ribs Broken nose Cut face Blood clot Swollen brain Swollen eyes/face Damaged eye/eye socket damaged ligaments/muscles Bruises Broken hand/fingers Strained muscles Damaged wrist internal organ damage internal bleeding damage to mouth & teeth brain damage
based on statistics, pro boxing is not as dangerous as cheerleading. probably bcoz of the accidents waiting to happen. but is getting pummeled in the head not as bad as an accident already?
If you already have eye problems I wouldn't suggest it. My friend had eye problems, decided to box most of the damage being done probably during hard sparring sessions and ended up with a detached-retina.
