NO, boxing is declining because of all the mismatches shown on national TV, such as Showtime tonight and the Garcia fight will be another sick joke on the fans..............PPV, $75 for a sparring session, not even a good sparring session and it will get worse. The house fighter fights a wino............
There is also the problem of boxing having no structure in schedule, you get what get. It's not like other sports like football where you know each team is gonna play a 16 season regular schedule, even the teams played in that season are known. The consistent expectancy makes it easier to follow the people you like. Also, when your team or favorite player loses, the structure allows you to say, well, there is always next game or season. In boxing when a fighter you like loses a void is created, you don't know when they'll be back, will their next fight have meaning, will they be able to compete at the same level? So many questions and unknowns due to the way boxing is and structured it may never reach the popularity of structured sports, but that's cool with me.
No it's not because of mama it's a mixture of things one is the fact that the heavyweight champion is not an exciting fighter and has had no real exciting contenders over the last say 8-10 years . A exciting and healthy heavyweight division usually bodes well for boxing as a whole
the constant ducking from multipler titlists, and so called champions fighting multiple weaklings has tarnished boxing. The public tend be smarter as to what they are being sold, they aren't easily duped.
To someone who doesn't have any idea of what's going on out there in the octagon, this is what it should look like.... But in reality,, it doesn't work that way.....
I'm not from USA and never been there but the boxing decline in my opinion is more self-inflicted than anything, I may be wrong though.
Yeah, MMA definitely take parts but as others said the biggest factor is boxing itself. People want to see the best fight the best, unfortunately so many times it can't happen because of promotor & network issues etc. Boxing is still the most popular combat sport in my country but the hype is not as big as 90s.
Watch the odd UFC Event, watched various youtube highlight clips and researched some information on fighters records. Not to impressed with it to be honest, pure brutality and from the very few clips I've seen it seems more about brawling and severely damaging your opponent than technique. I'm a general boxing fan and watch as many events as I can regardless of the fight card. Me personally I like watching boxers movement as well as attack/defence and their ability to "box". Be creative and out-box the opponent to win the round etc. Admittedly though I don't know enough about MMA traits and styles to back up my opinion about their fighters techniques.
Are you ******ed? Boxing is doing great right now here in the US. If anything MMA is a dying fad. Their PPV #'s are down, the bars here in south florida don't play UFC's anymore but they still play pac and floyd fights. Back in like 07 or 08 when brock lesnar was fighting in the UFC the bars would be packed, but now? Not much interest. The biggest star in the UFC is a woman, let that sink in.
MMA is not brutal, when the fight is over the fight is over. In boxing when a fighter gets rocked and knocked down he can get up and continue taking punishment. Taking countless blows to the head is much more dangerous than being taken down and choked out or getting hit by a few seconds of ground n pound before the ref stops it.
