Is boxing dying or are the times changing............

Boxing is dying in America for sure. After Mayweather, no boxers will get MEGA Paydays. MMA and the way fighters are matched are taking a lot of fans.

I don't agree about the the cycles thing. Boxing will die eventually or just fade into obscurity. Same with football... it will get so bad - with new rules - farming it out to 50 degree heat countries in the desert etc - no tackling etc - football will soon lose its popularity. The same rules that made watching football trendy in the 90s will be the downfall of football. Footballs been around for well over 100 years in this country but in another hundred you can bet it won't be as popular - and most kids will be cabbages with xbox's for eyes. The rest of the world will follow, but they're around 50 years behind. So they still enjoy a bunch of overpaid bare chested queers rolling around the floor.

As for boxing, people love contact sports and competition. Boxing talent will fade as less and less people will see it as a way out or hobby.

 

Only in the US is boxing dying look at the attendances at Canadian fights its thriving in Europe and its growing in Asia boxings just becoming more global.What Malliniaggi said about there not being many Italian American fighters nowadays being down to the fact most Italian Americans no longer live in poverty nowadays is just an excuse boxings just not as popular in the US anymore in the last few years Welsh Italians have been more successful in boxing than Italian Americans and there not living in poverty.

 

Let's be honest - in the US it is dying. I wonder what will happen after Mayweather and Pacquaio retire. What I hate about US boxing atm is they somehow see the need to manufacture their 'stars'. Fighters aren't allowed to develop, some fighters are picked up by the top promoters and groomed for the top and super-stardom. You can see that with Alvarez even though I don't think he is anything special. Yeah, he's got some talent but he's not the this future great everyone seems to be talking about.

British boxing is in slightly better shape but needs terrestrial telly. What I'm hoping is our boxers excel at the Olympics. We've got a real talented bunch and if a lot of them medal then hopefully some of the terrestrial channels can be tempted back into boxing.
