Yes. More exciting fighter who's willing to take on the best, and a much nicer guy.

Leaves things a little more open aswell as Mayweather was never likely to loss his p4p #1 status as he looked to avoid the best fighters, whereas Manny is taking risks.

No. The fighter is less good. He also has less cross-over appeal in the west.

    Devil's advocate:

Mayweather was in a higher weight class-- always important in boxing.

Mayweather had more staying power as the #1, roughly 3 years or so.

Mayweather was younger when he recieved the title.

If Mayweather had the mentality to fight anyone win or lose...
Like a Pacquiao he would be the number #1 attraction in all of sport's.
Too bad he didn't have the right mindstate to go with his talent.

Yes. Pacquiao defo deserves everything he is getting right now.
The guy has No Fear. he's a true throwback.

Fair enough but if he fought hatton at wembley or in the US it will be a sell out.:good

On a cursory glance, the answer seems like a resounding yes but I get the sneaky suspision that we might be in store for more of the same.

Ex.. Pac might leave the 135 in limbo if he decides to go up and fight Hatton without doing some house cleaning first!

    Devil's advocate:

Mayweather was better, but less willing to showcase it against the best. Just look at the fight he didn't take and what it would do for boxing. Manny takes that fight and the hype would do wonders for the sport

Will manny still be p4p #1 after (if) he loses to hatton.

I like mannys fights, they are usually exciting but my concern for his #1 p4p status after the above fight.

It will be the same. Pacquiao is now seemingly more interested in money and not his weight class. His fans call it moving up to face "challenges", the same thing they raged against when Mayweather was #1 and not cleaning out his division.

The only reason Pacquiao is getting a pass to move up and fight Hatton is

    A) His most non sensical fans (this is not all of them or even a majority) are hypocrites.

    B) For Manny, it is seen as a more of a "challenge" to move up because his style should have limits that are exposed by size difference. Mayweather's style did not, and therefore when he moved up for "challenges" it wasn't see as much of a challenge, but more for money. They are BOTH moving up for money, it's just seems harder for one to do so because of his perceived limitations.

This is a fantastic point. Manny will bring a very different audience to boxing, and bring interest to many people who wouldn't have taken up the sport.
