    It's probably on the fringe.

    Definitely more popular (worldwide):
    Soccer
    Cricket (Nearly 2 billion cricket-mad people in south Asia is already more than all of Europe combined)
    Tennis
    Golf
    Basketball
    Auto racing

    Not as sure about:
    Rugby
    Figure skating
    Baseball
    American football
    Badminton (which is popular enough in China to possibly push it ahead of a lot of sports)
    Table tennis (same)
    Gymnastics
    Ice hockey

    If I were to guess, I'd say it's probably not, but it might be at the very back end if you count people who only root for Manny Pacquiao and otherwise don't care about the sport.

    Boxing is huge in Japan right now. They have a lot of big name fighers like Hasegawa and Kameda. And champions like Nishioka, Ao, and Uchiyama.
