Boxing is popular everywhere. America is pretty much last now. Kessler draws 70% TV share's for his fights, Abraham and the Klitschko's are kings of Germany, Bute tickets sell out quick, in Japan, Naito and Kameda along with other fights draw Super Bowl numbers. Like I say, people that say Boxing is dead are idiots it's in great shape, but it would be better if the majority of Americans would pay attention.

boxing is an event in germany, it is more about the winning than the spectacle though.

fighters have great popularity in germany and are much better known and recognised than fighters in the usa.

this is obvioulsy due to the fact boxing goes out on prime time german free to air tv on there main channels.

american boxing is killing itself with PPV .

pavlik v a tomato can PPV is a prime example.

when was kelly last on a free to air tv show,.
he is fighting into obscurity outside of his hardcore fanbase .
you could put 10 other american fighters in his place.
dawson fights in front of just a few people
    cunningham the same.
    bradley the same.

fact is the huge megafights in america nowdays get only 1 in every 300 americans watching, and the average ppv would be 1 in every 1000 to 2000 which is a tiny percentage.

the numbers are just not adding up for american boxing at the moment and they desperatley need a tyson type fighter to liven it up.

one big fault of both countries though, is that both countrys do not showcase each others bills.
super 6 excepted to my knowledge only a few klitchko fights have been aired and then on delay.

german tv does not showcase american fights because they take place at 5 am on a sunday morning in germany .
so both countries main boxing audience is ignorent of the others.

if you are a top notch boxer in america at this moment in time , you will still earn more than a fighter from germany , but when you retire , you will have fought your whole career in virtual obscurity compared to the german based fighter.

american fans are much more knowledgable about what they are watching , but there are 20 german fans watching boxing compared to every american at the moment so to answer the
    question

Is boxing more popular in Germany than America?

    the answer is without doubt

    yes.

It's not the PPV's, it's the fact that in order to watch the top boxers fight people have to order a premium channel like HBO and Showtime. And that will ALWAYS limit the viewing audience for boxing.

Boxing has nothing to blame but itself. From around 2001-2007 boxing was so inactive that newspapers no longer had a boxing column, they only reported big time fights which were really rare.

Boxing was so inactive in 2001-2007 that it seemed like it was completely shut out from the mainstream media, although as of right now boxing has picked up in popularity, but all the delayed fights and the politics is still hurting the sport.

    i hate HBO and SHOWTIME,

in Mexico they air the mega fights for free, and since i live right next door to Tijuana Mexico with an antenna i can catch the signal for the "stars channel" and i can watch the fights for FREE! thats how i did for Cott-Pac and May-Marquez

btw, Juna Manuel Marquez is a far star and a far better boxer than, Williams and Bute
