Is Boxing news biased towards English fighters

I'm not really BN anymore but I should just state that off the four writers who are, Matt Christie is from Birmingham so they are not all from the South East. Furthermore, as the mag is based in London and making it to the office five days per week is mandatory the regional demigraphic is pretty self-fulfilling. If only a quality Irish boxing writer would relocate closer to London eh, something I once suggested to Steve Wellings who demurred, inconceivably unwilling to abandon his wife and young son.

As for the bias question, I believe the coverage balance reflects the readership though the headline, if correctly stated, may have been unintentionally misleading. BN sells far more copies in the Four Nations than say Japan and Australia, so Ireland gets more coverage than them. The mag sells far more copies in England than Ireland so the latter gets less coverage. Or looked at simplistically, Ryan Rhodes' world title fight will get more pages than Willie Casey's (probably) and 'Big Bang' got more than Anthony Mundine or Takahiro Aoh. This seems to be expected and accepted in the pro section so wht not the amateurs (headline aside)? Reflections on a fight are completely impartial but to believe the ability to sell the most issues has no impact on which shows/boxers are awarded the most coverage is naive. If merit was the only consideration you would see the likes of Chris John on the cover more often.

 

The London media has always had a south east English view point and bias. They still call anything outside of London the 'provinces'- in 2011!
How many regional accents do you hear on TV, except for patronizing crap like Coronation St. It was surreal living in Scotland when you would turn on the TV and 90% of the people were RP speaking english.
Any problems in London and the south are emphasized over the situation in other areas.
So basically Boxing News is not unique, it is a media wide problem.

 

You clearly did not read or chose to ignore my perfectly logical explanation. London shows do not get priority over those in Manchester, Glasgow etc

 

I was making a general point, p'raps got carried away, it's a pet hate of mine.
The point I was trying to make is that all the media is stationed in London and so has a London/English bias even if unknowingly. I know that Boxing News covers the majority of events from across the country and abroad, one of the few magazines that do and as such deserves credit :good

Well done Sir. Criticism of the publication for the way they represented a story is fair enough but if we are to judge them it must be done in it's totality and credit must also be given when it's due.

 

Thats what happen when different countries are classed as one, with one dominating.
