Is boxing the hardest sport agree to disagree? "The term "agree to disagree" or "agreeing to disagree" is a phrase in English referring to the resolution of a conflict (usually a debate or quarrel) whereby all parties tolerate but do not accept the opposing position(s)." Here's one vote for yes. Reasons why: We don't have a schedule that forces the best to meet the best every year. The rules have changed over the years. Lack of film on some of the best fighters ever. The old my generation was better than yours. Geopolitics and ethic rooting interests. Bad decisions rendered and open interpretation on who won close fights. Corruption.
I think so and if not its certainly one of the most difficult to agree on in a lot of aspects. Unlike other sports, statistics don't tell a lot of the whole story in boxing. Of course if you wanted to argue who was a better quarter back, Brett Favre or Peyton Manning, one could point at the manning arguably had a better offensive line and hence had the advantage in racking up numbers. But truthfully I think boxing is much more abstract.
I would have to say yes, it is. Some of the '' debates '' are caused by race, some by era bias and some purely because a poster has a dislike to a certain Boxer.
Lets keep darts out of the conversation at all costs! In every major sport, there is little dispute who the champion is / was on any given year. With boxing, a champion doesn't have a playoff format and he can lose his status by politics.
I have looked into this for years. ESPN ****ysts came to the conclusion boxing was the hardest sport with Ice Hockey coming 2nd. Really it is a debate that could go could on and you would never satisfy every question. Boxing requires almost every type of physical, mental and skill related fitness in the same sense that tennis does or basketball. However these sports do not take physical punishment. Getting punched regularly is physically exhausting and not many untrained athletes could take this let alone trained ones. I am huge fan of sports and very open minded, yet I would be confident in debating why boxing is the hardest sport to participate.
I disagree, i used to box and do martial arts, and to me martial arts is tougher you have to worry about feet and legs, and a leg kicks which generate a lot more force, than a punch, and you CAN'T clinch and hold hug your opposition when you get tired, you have to fight or you are done... Hell boxers today have it pretty easy compared to 30-40 years ago, the cherry picking has escalated to the point to where it has driven past fans over to MMA, lets be real the fans want to see competitive fights NOT one sided beat downs, and the top guy's like Hopkins, and Andre Ward and maybe Mayweather fight maybe once a year, phuck that's not hard, back when Ali and Holmes were in their prine they fought 3 or 4 times a year, 15 ROUND FIGHTS, NOT WATERED DOWN 12 rounders, hell Andre Ward has fought once since 2011 that's crazy, to answer the posters ? no i don't think boxing is the hardest sport..
This may or may not be the case depending on the level a man is participating at. For me boxing is the hardest mainstream sport due to the intent. The aim is to render the other man senseless, with nobody else to help. The glare of the crowd is upon the boxer and to lose is to be exposed as less of a man than you claimed to be, there is literally nowhere to hide. This alone makes it a very hard sport mentally. Physically it is tough, the training is hard but the outcome of a bout is painful, even for the victor. Injuries occur in many sports but the brutal nature of a contest in which trained men deliberately attempt to land blows to the vital areas of their opponent sets it apart. The fighter is only a punch away from a life changing injury at any moment during the contest. That is true for a tackle in rugby or NFL maybe but it is the intent that separates the sports. Boxing for me.
True, But many Boxers have taken part in other sports such as cycling (for charity, i.e.: done a TDF course etc) and have said that it was harder than any fight they've had. Cycling, Triathlon, MMA, Tennis (to a degree. 4 hours of play takes a massive amount of mental and physical strength to complete), F1... There are many 'tough' sports. Amateur wrestling (on an international level) is more gruelling than Boxing.
Utter Rubbish. Look on YT for SRL, Duran, Ali etc. The older fighters WERE better, simple. How can this be disputed?
Two completely separate topics being discussed on this page (both based on equally acceptable semantic interpretations of the thread title), anyone else realize this? :yep
