Boxing pales in comparison to a trialathlete, 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and the final kicker a 26.2 mile run.... Let's be real Boxing IS NOT the hardest sport, especially these days with excessive cherry picking, 12 round fights, long long layoffs, guys are so afraid to lose they will fight tomato cans to keep their fake precious 0, and refs stopping fights when some guys ARE NOT EVEN HURT, see Groves-Froch 1, and lets not forget about all the drug cheats, boxing in my opinion has gotten a lot easier over the last 30 years...
Yes. MMA is up there too. In Boxing you are getting hit directly in the face. You need a bunch of stamina to maintain proper defense and offense. Without it you are out. Boxing is very similar to marathon running
yeah but then again, a trialathlete, 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and the final kicker a 26.2 mile run, those guys arent getting punched in the face are they?
Holds true to this forum if you replace boxer with poster ... minus the race part. In terms of debate it's certainly up there. Even in this thread there's major divisions in opinion. Maybe that was the point that old dog Mendoza was trying to make :huh
It's easier getting punched in the face, you can hit em back, and if i get KOD well i lose so be it, try swimming against a stream of cold water when your arms are on fire, for a mile and a half, nahhhh I'll take some punches, besides if i can't adequately protect myself to keep myself from taking excessive punishment, then my ass better find another way to make a living.
there will always be debates with sides that can not agree but in terms of comparing across eras i think boxing is one of the easier due to the lack of technology or team tactics. the fact boxing is one of the older/est proffesional sports means the history stretches further back and has more uncertainty and debate to be had there. The lack of early black opportunities and later splitting of belts doesn't help clarity, but boxing is far from alone in this problem(i.e different structures and geography in other sports). topic 2; no, people in all sorts of sports claim theirs is somehow different to and harder than even very similar sports, extermes in training and events are done in lots of places
Lol, tbh i thought the title meant the hardest to agree to disagree on and not the hardest as in physical, hence my sort of off topic post!
I think you got it right. All the people thinking Mendoza was asking whether "boxing is the hardest sport" got it wrong. Mendoza also, I think, deliberately sowed chaos by omitting the necessary words in his title. It should read "Is boxing the hardest sport to agree to disagree on" - or, to be grammatically correct, "Is boxing the hardest sport on which to agree to disagree?"
Sorry for the late reply. Yeah I used to play it, well I played union and in training sessions we played league games. I prefer rugby league to union, it is physically harder as well imo as the game is played a higher pace. I played rugby before I took up boxing, played lock mostly, had a few shots at flanker and no 8 as well. I was the joint fittest player in the team along with another boy. When I took up boxing I was not even fit. The fitness between the two sports is not even close. However I believe rugby league is tougher than rugby union. Have you ever boxed?
While in the Golden Gloves years ago my buddy was a high school wrestler and we went back and forth on this, which was the hardest? Heres the bottom line, a boxer can be trained to fight 12-15 hard rounds, a mat wrestler could never go that far because the sport takes too much from the body in the three sessions. At least in that matter wrestling would be harder.
Yeah I've done a little Rugby League and Boxing, it horses for courses regarding fitness and I was replying to the poster who said Ice Hockey was the 2nd hardest sport. I've also done a bit of MMA and that is physically way harder than Boxing IMO.
Wrestling is brutal. I can only imagine that MMA is worse. While trying all these sports as a youngster, I chose track because I was probably better at it and there was no getting hit in the face. That said, training for the decathlon is an 8 hour a day affair, a total life defeater. The divorce rate among Olympic level multi-event athletes is astronomical.
Yeah I said Ice hockey was the 2nd hardest sport, but I dont know that for a fact, some ESPN experts said it was, I can't skate to save myself. Yeah MMA will be very difficult, I believe it will be harder than boxing possibly until you get to 12 rounders then it is a different story. I say it depends on what each contest is like, some will be harder and easier than others depensing on which sport is involved.
