Is boxing the only sport, where a hard fought win is frowned upon?

Depends on the level of opposition but yeah, struggling against a limited foe is usually frowned upon but I guess Man United scrapping past Chester City in the FA cup would be frowned upon as well.

I don't think it's that they don't get credit, but more that if obvious flaws are exposed then people are quick to jump on them for it. eg Froch deserves credit for knocking out Taylor and showed a lot of heart and stamina but he also showed flaws that hadn't previously been seen so he is going to get criticism for it.

Boxing is unique compared to lots of other sports, as the level of competition boxers face goes up during their career rather than remaining at the same level. So when fighters have trouble in fights but pull out the win, it's often against one of the best fighters they've fought in their career and on a bigger stage, and they're facing elements they haven't seen before, so if they don't look good even if they win, they will get criticised.

 

Sports fans in general are critical. That just goes with the territory, we sit here making judgments.

I don't like it when people don't take into account that some opponents are better in reality than they were before the fight. i.e. last night, that kid Vassell thought was pretty damn good and would figure highly in domestic competition. Yet because nobody has heard of him its seen as a bad performance by Vassell.

 

If a fighter doesn't win by KO then they're feather fisted.

If a fighter gets knocked out or down then they're glass jawed.

If a fighter wins a close UD then they got lucky.

 

Those wins are all good wins. I give credit for everyone of them and I'm not just saying that.
