    Fantastic!
Not much different to my own story.
People that haven't had some difficulty, mental or physical, to overcome, simply won't be as dedicated as people who have had it easy in life. you need a deeper desire than just superficial in order to be a success. Anyone can walk into a gym an unfit mess, not many can walk out champions!

Thank you very much guys, that's really inspirational stuff. I'll stick with it and give it few months before I quit.

Johnboy, your experience really spoke to me as I think we were a similar type in school! Everyone's else's anecdotes were great too.

That quote about "The pain of discipline or the pain of regret" is a good one too. I tthink that's why I'm so conflicted about just quitting, which was my usual MO when something was tough. I feel like I've been down that road too many times and if I want things to change properly then I've got to start doing things differently, rather then repeating the same rubbish.

Anyway, cheers guys. I hate being a bit soppy about this stuff but you've helped me out.

Good for you bud, impressive story. I can relate, I was a fat kid in high school, now people I knew from then don't even recognize me....

I was a bit foreign (half English in the most racist country in Europe), nothing bad, just not a lot of respect from people, I was a computer kid, didn't do any sports, started boxing, fell in love, grew as a person ever since.

Stck with it. Agree that 3 months would be a good time to reassess.

I was still clumsy as **** three months in, but as long as there's progress it's good. No matter how small or insignificant it may seem at that moment, things could fall in place at some point. It's a complicated sport.

Agreed. It's easy to get frustrated - it's probably the hardest sport to master. I don't think in any other sport do you have to be focused on so many things at once. In practically every second of fighting, your offense, defense, footwork and head movement all need to be operating at a high level and all in tandem. Don't get discouraged - it's challenging for everyone.

I was the skinny kid. I had asthma. Couldn't walk down the street without getting short of breath. Went to uni, smoked and drunk too much.... people really don't believe me when I tell them about the changes I've made.

I'd definitely recomment sticking with it mate. You'll put on muscle, get stronger, faster, fitter, and soon enough that same first session will be a walk in the park for you (with little or no aching the day after). Your confidence will undoubtedly improve as well. Nothing produces more endorphines than a good work out so you'll be all the happier for it too.

Being 5 ft 11 and pretty light is also a bit of a blessing for you, tall and thin is good for a boxer, if you get around to sparring eventually then guys in your weight class will struggle against your range.

One thing I can say is that you will have good days and bad in the gym, some where you doubt whether it's for you. Stick with it and you will benefit in many ways. Just remember fast and powerful punches will take time and practice, but you'll get there!

really good thread reminds me of when i was at school - i was bullied, which considering i was ginger, skinny, and hated sports was probably unsurprising. thats why ive started to get into boxing because apart from the fitness side of things, it gives you so much self confidence to think that if you ever do get into a fight youve got a better chance of standing up for yourself

    No problem with that, I'm 15, 6'0 and 58 kg (9 stone).
I had pretty **** co-ordination but its improving.
As for the not being strong thing?
When i started (only 5 months ago) i could barely do 30 push ups. I can now do roughly 75 in a minute (sure they aren't perfect form but when your doing more than one a second its not easy lol)
I'm still very green in boxing and have a long way to go with training, and im still pretty weak with my punches (I have fast hands though) but don't let that bother you.

Cause im tall and thin people (used to, some still do) see me as an easy target. Nothing shuts someone up more than a shot to the body :p

My point is, make your height work in your advantage, use your reach, and improve.

Hope you don't mind taking advice from an inexperienced 15 year old but i feel i can relate to the tall skinny guy problems and the confidence issues it brings.

Just keep at it for a while :)

I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder around 3 years ago. I have been boxing around 12 months and almost gave it up a few times when I first started. Now I wish I had started when I was younger. Dont give up no matter how hard it gets. Trust me it will be worth it :bbb
