Is Boxing Worse off Because Don King is not the Dominant Promoter?

He did a better job of matching up folks than Arum...

 

Well I don't know if we've lost anything but Sauerland has turned out to be 10 times more corrupt than Don King ever was. In that respect he's the lesser of two evils.

 

GBP and Sauerland are completely corrupt POS promotions.

Don King gave us better bouts, but he also gave us Ruiz. :-(

Don King may have been corrupt, but he understood that at the end of the day, people wanted to see the best fighters fight the best fighters. All of this road-mapping of a fighter's career is just bull****!

 

King put on the fights the fan's wanted, at the end of the day boxing is about money and the best way to make money is showcase fight's, not keeping the best fighters away from each other

 

King's hating is somewhat exagerated,he had many good shows.
Arum,Oscar and all the rest aren't any better.

 

you know with all of the bull**** ppv's that weve been having these past years, i forgot how much i disliked Don King in the past.

right now i agree that he gave us boxing fans much better cards when he was on top.

 

Lol. He was a business man. You get to that level of wealth they are all corrupt. Unlike the scumbags on walstreet atleast he gave us a show once and awhile.

 

I do not miss the fact that every time Don King was the promoter and Richard Steele was the ref, something smelled like fish.

 

i miss the tournaments that he used to put on to eliminate the pretenders..granted he had to have option on all the winners..but at least they fought

 

Any examples of corruption please gentlemen - you know like stuff I can see on YouTube? The only one I'm aware of is Robin Reid v Sven Ottke and Reid got screwed in Germany.

 

King is a snake, but the man did put together alot of interesting/exciting matches, alot better than what were seeing today, especially in the bleak Heavyweight division.

 

This is correct. 90% of the so called PPV Events last year could have easily been HBO WCB or Spike, or BDSSP, or Versus, or Network Specials. This needs to start being the trend. Manny Pac-Hatton is fine on PPV, but lets put a 35 dollar cap on it, and lets put a SOLID undercard on it, with at least 2 Championship Fights, and a chick fight on the undercard. Now, if Pac wins and takes on PBF, the same thing. Other than that, I really dont see any fights I'd really pay 54 dollars for.

 

I agree completely, and especially with the $35.00 cap. I remember quite well (I think, lol) that that was pretty much the standard forever until May 5, 2007. On that night GBP learned that 2. however many million viewers would shell out the $55.00 and the price has never came back down. Before that, many PPV's were like $20.00 -$30.00 and like has been pointed out you would usually back then get some quality on the undercards. Now we just get ripped the **** off.
