Doing my regular research I came across these interesting articles. I'm sure many of you have came across them yourselves, if not then by all means enjoy and give your thoughts. The 1st gives Joe Louis's thoughts on how Mobsters were destroying the sport and what he thought needed to be done to eradicate much of the shady acts that were taking place in the sport that had given him so much and that he loved. The 2nd discusses the bills that the justice department were attempting to pass to form a commission responsible for licensing the promotors and fighters. I always knew that the Mob had control to a certain extent of the sport but not at such levels. Boxing was really in a bad way and needed fixing. It sort of reminds of the state boxing is in right now with all the ABC title organizations and shady promotors stopping the important fights and keeping all the money in house. Not to mention, in some cases many bouts are decided by "outside parties" even today. Give your thoughts and if you can add anymore information on the subject that I may have not uncovered.:good http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...68RAAAAIBAJ&sjid=oecDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3077,4335120 http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...JAyAAAAIBAJ&sjid=RukFAAAAIBAJ&pg=3341,6215464
Good thread smitty..Ive read some similar articles but I dont believe Ive seen them before. Also remember reading a ton of articles calling for boxing to be banned in the 50's and 60's because of a few highly publicized deaths and injuries..All sorts of inquires and several levels of government..and the mob issues was investigated pretty throughly aswell.
Thanks. Judging by the articles boxing really needed a overhaul, especially if the gov't has to get involved it must be pretty serious. Any links to the artices your referring?

Excellant thread. Just read through the articles, it seemed they mucked up and hsould have made a Federal organisation rather then keeping it seperate for the states.
