Yes and he is to the hardcore boxing fan but the award will go to an HBO or showtime fighter just so the casual fan can feel like they know boxing and decide to join ESB.

He should be but he won't get the recognition he deserves. Idiots like Rafael have listed Cotto and Pacquiao as honorabe mentions ahead of him

I think him, rios and ward are all good choices for foty (fat dan had cotto as his second pick :rofl) but he is a lock for comeback of the year which will probable go to morales

I personally think he is fighter of the year given the fact he was underdog in both fights and both fights are now his best wins + the way in which he beat p4p rated Segura when fighting as an underdog was amazing.

Ward, Donaire and Rios were all expected and favoured to win the fights that they did.

It's not just the Segura fight that was big but the Miranda as well. He was a heavy underdog in both and came out the victor. He went from journeyman level to top 2 elite in his division in less than 6 months. I doubt Pong will leave Thailand to unify which isnt so bad because it leaves Viloria to look at super flyweight which is a very weak division now.
Viloria is easily on his way to becoming a 3 weight divisional champion.

The last fighter south of Featherweight to win FOTY was Michael Carbajal in 1993. Lower weightclasses simply don't get any recognition.

Definitely. He had a fantastic year when most people didn't expect it one bit (well, most people don't know who he is).

He is definately a contender for both.

Ward will surely get Fighter of The Year. I would like either Viloria or Rios to get it, but it won't happen.

Comeback of the year is probably going to go to Kirkland. I am okay with that choice if it does occur, but both Viloria and Morales would be worthy of that award.

    Viloria's 2011 is exactly identical to Martinez's 2010.

The fight to be made in the middleweight division in 2010 was Williams vs. Pavlik. Martinez comes out of no where to beat both impressively.

This fight that was being talked about and already signed to go was Miranda vs. Segura. Viloria comes out of no where to beat both impressively.

A Pinoy vs. Pinoy title fight? It never happens, unfortunately.
