All wackiness aside in that last fight with the bell. This guy is one of the top p4p fighters in the world. Would be in my top 10 easily.
He's fast, got serious power, really good skills, a very sturdy chin, and he pushed Usyk close and has beaten some pretty good fighters. CW Sergiy Radchenko who has sparred Wlad, Usyk, Briedis, Huck, Glowacki, Wlodarczyk, Kudryashov and Chakhkiev among other said this about Briedis ''You just can't be lighting fast and hit hard at the same time in this division, although Mairis Briedis is an exception - he is fast, the second fastest guy I sparred behind Usyk, and hits very hard''
I would say he is outside the top 10, but he is easily the best "unknown" boxer in the world. Casual fans don't know who he is. The hardcore fans do, but the people who follow boxing closely probably can't name 5 guys he's fought. I consider myself a big boxing fan and I just found out last year he KO'd Charr. His resume is very good: Usyk, Glowacki, Charr, and Perez. Those are all big names and he gave Usyk his toughest fight for sure.
If he was a Welterweight or Middleweight he would push for top 5. And Usyk would be p4p #1. The Crusierweights never get any respect as fighters. Because everybody thinks they're big enough to compete at HW. Briedis is better fighter than Canelo is.
Serious power in both hands and he's a very good counter puncher too This content is protected Beautiful step to the side, right uppercut, left hook, right hand This content is protected
I've rated Briedis for years now. He's got serious explosiveness and elite level skills; reminds me a lot of a slightly wilder but quicker Povetkin the way he whips those shots in, though unlike Povetkin he's got a great jab that he constantly uses to break through fighters' guards. Best CW in the world today and a serious threat at HW. Imagine Breazeale or one of those other puddings getting strafed by this guy round after round.
The back end of the top 10 is pretty open...I rate and like Dorticos, so if Briedis gets past him, I could definitely see the argument. He's got the talent, and winning the WBSS is a good ticket to crack the list. Given his weak opening round performance, I was concerned Briedis peaked vs Usyk. He certainly bounced back strong vs a better fighter in Glowacki.
I also think the Taylor-Prograis (right now I'm leaning Rougarou) winner will snag one of those spots on the back end of the list...
Not even top 20. Better fighter than Canelo lol, whatever the hell you are smoking please desist. What is Breidis best win... Ghost of Mike Perez? Old shot Marco Huck?
