The last American Heavy Weight to hold a major title was Hasim Rahman and Evander Holyfield was the last American to truly be the best Heavy Weight in the world and that was more than 15 years ago. Bryant Jennings was technical, masterful and exciting in his last fight against Artur Szpilka who is a tough dude. He effectively blocked shots from Szpilka. He looked real good, works hard and has class. This guy would be an excellent role model for American Heavy Weights in my opinion. I know he has a way to go but I think he has a shot. Not sure why this forum never brings him up but he may have his day. Is Bryant Jennings good enough?

Not as long as Wlad is around. After he's gone there is a good possibility he could succeed Wlad, buts its still to early to tell. I'd really like to see him in with Pulev to determine who should succeed.

He's certainly got a better shot than Wilder and Mitchell do, that's for sure....

I like Jennings and I have started to pay attention to his career but I am still not 100% sold on him as a future top 3 heavyweight for some reason. I am not writing him off but I'd like to see him against maybe a couple more different styles.

Its still early in career, but he's progressing nicely. The way he dominated Spzilka was impressive.

Definitely, he's taken bigger steps in the last couple of years and looks more promising than some of the other up and coming fighters.

Wilder is exciting, but until he steps up and proves he can take out the top guys he will have question marks. I think Jennings is definitely leading the lack of up and coming heavyweights, American or otherwise. As long as Wlad is fighting though, unless he suddenly gets old, Jennings will not become THE heavyweight champion. Jmo.

We still have to see what happens to Wilder when people start hitting him.

Jennings will be fighting Perez, perhaps that will tell something about his ability, but he should fight Wilder, but no way will Wilder be allowed to fight anyone who can fight back............Thompson will fight Jennings, Wilder or anyone else, all a fighter has to to is call him. Wilder refused to fight Thompson............

Jennings vs Perez winner against the Stiverne vs Arreola winner could be the answer and I think Bryant Jennings might have his day. Good Final Four right there.

Good enough to beat Wald? Not yet.
Good enough to beat Wilder? Of course. Bryant won't lay down for Wilder and he's no tomato can of a fighter. He has a respectable amount of ring knowledge and as shown in his bout against Szpilka he wears his opponents down over time. He's in fantastic shape. I say this is what Heavyweight boxing needs.

I'm glad Jennings is fighting Perez, but I just wish heavyweights were given more time to develop nowadays. Wlad, a gold medal Olympian had 30+ fights before fighting for a paper title. Seems guys like Jennings, Pulev, Fury are being fast tracked to championships to capitalize on the almighty dollar instead of being developed properly. Helenius was also on that list until his injury and now has to rebuild.

I totally agree with you. His ring IQ was beyond his experience in the Szpilka fight. He is getting better. I am not sure why everybody thinks Wlad would automatically win right now. I don't see Wlad being able to do his thing against Bryant Jennings easily. The Heavy Weight Division having a humble smart classy hard working fighter from Philly as the Champion in my opinion would be a great thing. Maybe it's time for an American to take those belts back. Bryant Jennings may have his day.

Good point. In Jennings case I believe his first professional fight was at 26-27 years old so he had some making up to do. Like others said he might not be ready for Wlad right now but he looked real good against Szpilka. I just don't see Wlad being able to physically control him like he does other fighters. Bryant Jennings is also strong among the other attributes I mentioned earlier. Bryant Jennings may have his day.

I hope he does. He's certainly more pleasing to watch in my opinion, I just wodnt bet on it any time soon. For all the ribbing I give Klitschko nuthuggers, he's a very good fighters who will be mentioned among the top 10 or 15 greats when his career is over.
