Its the only thing he could have done to elevate himself above Mayweather and friends. That being said he didn't need to do it. It could have elevated him into a different stratosphere but the only reason we can dare to wonder how Crawford would be against the three Bs is he beat Canelo. If he'd lost at 175 it would not impact his 147 legacy so it has to be the same not fighting them.

I made a thread saying I was "miffed" Crawford wasn't fighting at 175(and got loudly told to f off by many people) but this is more because he was campaigning at 160 instead. 175 was the the only way to really add to his legacy so seeing him fighting at 160(after Janibek) would have been frustrating. He hopped 3 weight classes in 2 fights so why not 4 in 3? He chose to go up why not make the most of it? But now that hes retiring who cares. The angst was more based on the premise he had another 3-4 fights and was going to fight Lara and Adames instead.

If he would have fought the 3 Bs if not for "0 culture"(which we don't know but is possible) that is frustrating. But at the end of the day thats our fault not his fault.

Also it was mainly Bivol and maybe Beterbiev. Benavidez is 6'2 and in his prime. That was more of an ambitious fantasty.

My guess is that he is retiring for at least some of these reasons and there may be more:

    1. He's 38 years old
    2. He's intelligent
    3. He is undefeated
    4. He has made a ton of money
    5. He has gratitude for what he has and doesn't need any more money, fame, or any of the other trappings of an active elite fighter.
    6. He has his health

God Bless you Bud Crawford and enjoy your retirement!

    Mayebe him vs Tyson Fury?
    Guy isn't biggest dude.
Yes he beat Canelo but he is level down from that guys and also much smaller (height and Reach)
You cant force even soo great boxer to fight with soo much bigger top opposition just because You want see where is his limit.

I was a little surprised because multiple shows and writers were discussing a September rematch with Alvarez.

However, this is a well timed retirement, something most fighters don't do though we have to ask if he is actually retiring. He won belts in 5 different divisions and all 4 belts in 3 divisions. Is anyone expecting a guy who started as a lightweight to compete with Beterbiev and Bivol who are solid light-heavyweights? I think criticizing him for not moving up one more time would be absurd.

Realistically who is left? Ennis at 154? Janibek who just popped and will be suspended? Canelo who he dominated? Some other world level guys 154-168 who are good fighters but not viewed as elite or pound for pound types of are a serious draw

Another bullsh.te fake retirement announcement. He will probably fight next year for a big paycheck. He's just raising the stakes, waiting for a big offer from Al Turki.

When did fighters start announcing retirement for some adoration, like it’s wwe.

just do like the honourable warriors of past did and go quietly.

Floyd Mayweather, Lennox Lewis, George Foreman, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Pernell Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya, Andre Ward, etc.... all announced their retirement.

I swear, on this site y'all find some of the most goofy things to discredit these fighters on and your quotes are far from factual. Yes there are some greats who fading out without an official announcement, but there are a lot who chose to let the public, their fans and supporters, know that this is it. Its by the choice of the fighter. Neither one makes you more or less honorable than the other.

He retired because he wanted to. Why does he need to continue to put his body through what he did his entire life when he isn't in need for any $$, accolades, and definitely validation from a bunch of fans who didn't support him in the first but rather claim he was less talented and valuable than he was regardless of him beating the guys they claimed he was going to get exposed against. Now you want him to go to a division he openly said he had zero interest in competing in at age 38 and because he isn't he's ducking said fighters......lol.

Explain how exactly do you avoid fighting someone who turned down 2 official offers to fight you..........

I'm just trying to understand why this ignorant statement keeps getting repeated so passionately after the Crawford, WBO, & Bozy Ennis all confirmed it was factual and not a rumor.....

How do you duck anyone in a weight class you have never fought in?

By that logic he is ducking Usyk, Fury, Joshua
