Calzaghe is no.3, on longevity and skill. His resume is pretty thin, the Hopkins win aside his wins can be dissected easily as half-decent rather than great. Buchanan's win over Laguna is better than any of Joe's, as is Honeyghan over Curry, Turpin over Robinson etc etc But Calzaghe beat a lot of half-decent guys, and edged a decision over one of the top 20 fighters of all time when he was still good (Hopkins) So he's no.3 on my list.
Fleaman, regarding Hatton that is bull****. His latter run includes three good names: Tyszu, Mayweather and now Manny. He's about to notch up his second loss to a true elite, so hardly the same as a guy who beat everyone in front of him, including the most worthy challenger for his title in Mikkel Kessler. Hatton hasn't faced a single no.1 contender of note.
I agree, as much as I respect Hatton for taking on the best we can't count his loses as adding to his legacy.
Easy boys and girls. Lennox was born in London. Buchanan is British just like Calzaghe. I based the 'best British fighter of all time' on a lot of factors. I've talked about them on the show. Not just one fight, not just retiring unbeaten, not just one great victory or a great defeat. Joe scores all over and that is why I had him at the top - Lennox suffers from the knockouts in the grand scheme of things, Conteh from his demons and Barry from the loss to Cruz and Jim McDonnell. It's not a one-night thing...that is something for a future show.... Adios.
Buchanan is my personal favourite. But, he ended career in obscurity, had a British title fight behind closed doors after his reign and the 'best' tag, according to me, takes in a lot more than just a couple of fights over a 12 month or two year period. Adios.
fair enough buncy coming on and giving your side...... as for lennox, he KO'd those who had KO'd him, which makes him the greatest. joe didnt fight a lot of the top guys for a long time or go to the states soon enough. lennox was around when a lot of fantastic heavyweights and beat them all, won an olympic gold medal and when he had his mind and body in sync, a la rahman 2, tyson, a prime holyfield and made a supposed possible atg riddick bowe run like carl lewis
