Is Bute a overhyped bum like Lacy or was it just an off night for him?

I have to say the fight looked like it was a Pro vs an Amateur.

I had expected to see the power Bute was suppose to have and instead just saw Froch walking through his punches like nothing and every time Froch tagged him even slightly Bute looked like a truck hit him.

A lot of times the word 'exposed' get used too frequently on this forum when a fighter loses a fight. But I think in this case, it seems justified to say it.

So was it just a bad match or can Bute come back from this and do something?

Or he could have just lost to a better fighter, which he did.

Criminally overhyped + World Class performance by Froch.

I don't know man. I think the nature of the stoppage lends to the belief that this was a bell to bell annihilation.

Bute was doing fine until the 3rd when he got hurt. His lefts were hurting Froch as the man himself said, Froch happens to have a an iron jaw.

When Froch hurt Bute, and I was surprised that some of the shots did indeed hurt him, as they didn't look all that damaging or leveraged, but whatever......point is, Froch put the pedal to the metal. I think this, combined with the realization that Froch could take his good punches probably unnerved Bute.

Either way, Froch was awesome, Bute was not. Better man won. But Bute still beats most of the guys in the division. This idea that he can't(not what you're saying, I know) is a little over the top. He just ran into the toughest, grittiest guy in the division and couldn't withstand his onslaught.

After this my biggest question is about Bute's chin. We'll learn what he's made of now, based on how he comes back.

    Overhyped? yes. Bum? no.

the guys crumbled once before under pressure, on saturday he met someone who could pressure him, rough him up and out punch him. Bute has some ability but the blue print was layed and Froch was the 1st to execute it. Its up to Bute to adjust now but if you cant hold a big shot your gunna struggle at the top level.

He's a good fighter who lost to a better one. Froch wasn't an over-hyped bum because he lost to Ward and last night doesn't make Bute one either.

Bute isn't as good as a lot of people thought but he's not a scrub either.

Froch just walked through him, in the sports bar I was watching it in everyone screamed the house down when he got the stoppage, it was great.

It's gonna be interesting to see how Bute comes back from this.

Bute would probably beat Stieglitz and Abraham but the top 3 of the division are much better than him. Andre Dirrell would also beat him, but Bute surely beats the rest of the division.

I know he could have just lost to a better fighter but it was the manner of the defeat that surprised me considered all the hype on him.

I have to say I have not seen him before the fight with Froch and if I didn't know anything about him, I would have thought Froch was fighting a tomato can just to get a good win after the hard tournament he had. It was so one sided.

Yeah that was what surprised me the most, that some of Froch's weaker shots seem to have hurt him really badly even from early on and but Bute punches didn't seem to affect Froch at all.

Lacy was no bum, and neither is Bute, BUT when you recieve a shellacking like both of them got, it can ruin a fighter. They never approach a fight with the same self belief, and a beating like that can also take away from their physical abilities, especially reactions.

When like Lacy, youve been built into believing youre an unbeatable monster, and take a hiding like that, youll never be the same again.

I dont think Bute will recover from that either. I dont think he'll ever be considered as a real elite fighter ever again, and I wouldnt be surprised if he retires, and if not Id certainly be amazed if he takes the FRoch rematch.

The biggest difference is Froch has fought the best of the best and didn't get KTFO agains Ward.

Bute hasn't fought anybody of note and the first quality fighter he come up against he got destroyed.

Hard to tell. I really rated Bute but did rate Lacy also to be fair.

Lacy had better wins than Bute, and Lacy damaged his shoulder in his fight after Calzaghe and was never the same.
Time will tell with Bute, but either way he was terribly exposed by Froch.
I think Bute could beat a majority of the top SMWs at this time as the division is weak. Problem is now, is that everyone will be confident of just steaming in against him to find the KO shot and that could be worrying

Bit of both, sure was overrated and hyped, but still not as limited as Lacy. Froch is much stronger than what I was thinking, great fight for him. Bute must take the rematch and redeem himself or lose again and retire. Maybe he can pull a Lewis-Rahman II type of performance.....:yep

Wha? Glen Johnson is a better fighter than ANYONE Lacy beat.

Bute isn't aa bum. Overhyped most definitely.

Something about Canadian boxers that get hyped up and they get crushed. Lemieux, Molitor, now Bute......look out Stevenson
