Bute's a slick boxer with Dinosaur arms. Needed 2 fights to beat the walking punching bag. Bute needs to beat someone before he should be ranked anywhere near the elite in the division.
Bute obviously is very good, but I want to see him handle a guy who can punch with him for speed and who also uses his feet. Going from one limited brawler in Andrade to a declined, limited brawler in Miranda doesn't prove anything to me. If Bute wants the winner of the Super 6 and to command something near equal terms, he needs to beat Pavlik, Pascal and/or Dawson. I think he'd beat Pavlik, 50/50 against Pascal and would be a 30/70 underdog against Dawson at any weight north of 170.
As Aschylos said: "Nothing is certain, not even that" I don't think anyone can be currently seen as clearly the best at 168. Kessler seemed to be unti he ran into Ward, who now has this one very impressive win but not much more yet. Dirrell shows a lot of talent and has two fights in which he also displayed strange behaviour. Bute is good but showed trouble against lesser punchers than Froch or Abraham, who both have their problems with speedy movers.
Obviously the Super 6 fights help rank those guys at 168lbs, that's not Bute's fault if he can't prove himself against them for now. I still see him as being one of the best 4 natural talents in the division with Ward, Kessler & Dirrell. Before the Super 6 started, Bute's resume was better than all of them except Kessler. I do agree that ranking wise, the top 2 fighters of the tournamnent should be ranked above Bute, but a bout between Lucian and the winner should settle the score once and for all.
Bottom line, you can't be undisputed at 168 without going through Bute. Him being in the super 6 would've made this tournament twice as good from the onstart, because everyone who matters would be there. If showtime was smart they would have gone after Bute and Andrade and made it a super 8. With 4 Americans (Andrade Mexico/USA) and 4 Europeans (Bute Euro/Canada)
No one becomes the best at 168 by beating a middleweight...therefore I still don't see why so many rated Abraham as top dog at 168...
I don't think Bute's reume was better than Froch's before the super six. He had just had back to back wins over Pascal and Taylor.
Taylor the middleweight and Pascal as green as can be, which was humiliated here at ESB months prior for his lack luster performance against....Omar Pittman. Bute beat a few better ranked fighters previously...
I'm not so sure but I certainly feel you have to rank Froch the higher of the two at the moment. Regardless of whether his oppotunities are being limited by the super6 you can only rank a fighter on the fights they have, not what you feel they could do.
I can understand someone not to rank Bute number 1 or 2 but to say he is not near the elite, well, I just looked at your name and understood.
