I want to say Bute is. But honestly if Ward wins his next fight then I would have to go with Ward as #1 although I want to call Bute #1. Dirrell has a strong argument for #1 now too. And depending on how the super six plays out, in the end it could be any one of those fighters claiming #1 because unfortunately for Bute there's no way he will be able to keep is opposition on the same level as theirs for the next year and a half. All Bute can do is keep winning.
If you only look at the names. Sure, Froch has the better resume. If you look at what those fighters actually accomplished at 168lbs. It's not that clear cut.
1. Froch (best resume in 168 without a shaddow of a doubt!) 2. Ward (beat Kessler) 3. Kessler (has the second best resume at 168) 4. Bute (has the third best resume at 168) 5. Dirrell (beat Abraham) 6. Abraham (beat Taylor)
Do you have any argument or are you just going to continue to cut & paste the same stuff over and over again?
Those are the arguments. Just because you want to see Bute at the top doesn't mean it will happen. I am a major fan of Bute, but we have to be realistic... we cannot just bend reality to our will. I have no problem admitting that Bute has the third best resume at 168. It is a very strong division and if Bute is good enough he will rise to the top in a year or two.
1. Ward 2. Bute 3. Dirrell 4. Abraham 5. Kessler 6. Froch Keep in mind my rankings are based on skill and ability + resume. So while Froch has arguably the best resume at 168, he is also a **** fighter and I would never disgrace the rankings with him as number 1.
adminyikes:yikes OMG i can't believe this you put Bute in front of Dirrell!!! This content is protected good
Because although Ward does not have a very strong resume (1 good win, but very shallow resume otherwise), he beat Kessler who has the second strongest resume. See?
Well, if we all did this... it would be a matter of personal taste - meaning that you should really share this with your girlfriend or someone who cares about you. Because the rest of us cannot use this for anything, as there is no objective basis to compare fighters on like that. So if we are doing this - close this thread already. IF we compare ACTUAL wins rather than someone's personal fantasies, then the Cobra is no. 1.
Given I have correctly analyzed every bout in the super six tourney, my opinion should be taken with a hunk of granite. I watch boxers and how talented they are, not who got a gift decision in Nottingham, who KO'd a burnt out Jermain Taylor or who KO'd Edison Miranda the fastest. Its about potential, nobody in the super six has fought the type of competition where resume wise you can make a clear number 1. So its clearer if you take resume, along with talent. And clearly Ward, Dirrell and Bute are head and shoulders above everyone else. Why would I rank Froch number 1 when everyone knows he's a defensive seive who's been lucky that he hasnt been sparked out yet? Hell before Kessler got clowned by Ward, he was number 1. Before Abraham got clowned by Dirrell he was number 1. Now Froch is number 1 lol? Please.
You should know better by now then to call me biased. I'm everything but a Bute nuthugger. :tong All I'm just pointing out that before judging the quality of a win. People should first look at what those people have actually done. This content is protected 's best wins at 168lbs are Ikeke, Camou and Mackey. This content is protected 's best wins are Stieglitz, Mack and Tsypko. This content is protected is 1-3 (2 big lost by KO) at 168lbs. His only win was against a shot Jeff Lacy. This content is protected had a controversial draw against WBC champion Markus Beyer, He also had good performances against Joe Calzaghe and Bute. Then he want on to win the contender and knock out Peter Manfredo. This content is protected scored a excellent win over Arthur Abraham. Can't take that away from him. But before coming into the fight against Froch his best wins were Stevens, Hanshaw and Oganov. Which is good for a young prospect. But nothing to write home about. This content is protected has lost some and win some. He has wins over Vanderpool, Stieglitz and Mack. I have the same problem with people blowing out of proportion Ward's win over Kessler. Sure, Kessler was universally recognized as "the man" since Calzaghe retired. But for the last 3 years. He didn't put a single win on his record to prove it. In fact, his record is subpar at best. Even the limited Andrade, who people like to put down so much, has had a better record then Kessler in the last 3 years.
