Is Caleb Plant the man to beat Canelo at 168?

Tbf, if we knew smith was in the running for months before the fight, smith would an be ticking over, it’s not the same as the Kov situation, which was bad. There was no rehydration clause with Smith

I like Plant and he has the skillset to keep it competetive for a while, but I don't think he has enough power to earn Canelo's respect. Much the same as BJS.

Movement and hand speed is the way to Canelo but Plant just isnt good enough. Maybe BJS can and Bivol would beat Canelo in my opinion.

canelo looks good in 1 fight and now hes the greatest mexican champ of all time? Please. If he was so great he wouldnt need every advantage to fight. Hed fight straight up. How many times did chavez or marquez give guys 3-4 weeks notice to fight or get busted using peds or use rehydration clauses? While I am not sure that Plant can beat Canelo--the red-head enjoys a built in advantage on the cards and...to be honest...is pretty damn good--I do think his hand and foot speed will present problems Canelo hasn't seen in awhile. Simiarly, he's also a very clever boxer. Equally important,, I think he posseses enough grit/intestinal fortutude not to let the magnitude of the moment overwhelm him. Smith, whom I never really rated (he's a solid, competent 168lber to be sure, but doesn't possess elite level athleticism, power, or boxing acumen), may have been a bit overawed by the event.

Likewise, I believe BJS could spoil much of Canelo's offense. Will he be busy enough to outpoint the Mexican star? Probably not. David Benavidez has the speed and one-punch power to trouble Canelo as well.

In short (and while I may be in the minority here), I do think Canelo walks through the remaining players at 168 as easily as he did Smith..

 

Are we to assume there will be a rehydration clause and plant will take the fight on short notice?
Also, when was the last fight before smith you thought canelo looked decent?

Whether Plant possesses the ring IQ to match moves in what will likely be an early chess match with Canelo is very much up for debate.

Plant isnt gonna bend over for canelo so if its legit, plant prob beats canelo like lara did. Canelo looked good vs smith, what if he messes up his cycle like he did for the first ggg fight?
