Quite possible. If he were american he would have probably had a more deep resume with a lot more substance. Joe hindered the early and mid part of his career by staying complacent and fighting lower level comp that he was heads and shoulders above in terms of skills and talent.
I agree....the KO isn't as telling as that Eubanks with his skill, and talent was not able to out box Thompson both times. I saw both fights and they weren't all that close IMO. Chris just didn't look like himself....slow, more conservative than usual and fighting in spots.....not what I was accustomed to seeing frmo the British great.
Could be....but the Diaz fight I felt EM won. How he looks in his next fight will be very telling. I heard that EM might be comming back...which scares me a little if what you say is true....that he is "****ED".
I know the Brits arent as good in general at producing great fighters compared to the USAbians or Mexicans but even so.... for Calzaghe to be rightfully recognised as the greatest British fighter ever, certainly of the televised era says it all about the man. His skills are superb but its the stuff he has inside of him which makes him a ring legend... you cant teach that ****.
I thought Erik beat Diaz myself but you have to think what a peak Morales would do to Diaz then compare. His legs are gone, he can still punch, he can still kina take a punch but nowhere near as good as the old iron jawed version that took prime MAB & prime Pac`s for 12. Morales had 1 of the best pair of feet in the business, a lot of his offence & defence came from those legs, I still hope for the miracle but in reality my head is telling my heart to stop being a dick & STFU.
Lennox Lewis? Ken Buchanan? I expect tv footage of Jimmy Wilde and Ted Kid Lewis exists too. All four were greater than Calzaghe. Does anyone know if footage exists of the greatest British fighter ever, Bob Fiztsimmons?
yes he is His cv Lacy, kessler, hopkins, bika, eubank honrable mention robin reid remained undefeated defended his belt 20 times, unified the divison was the best fighter in his weight class left a competitive division on top when he was past his best years. all of this qualifys for atleast a Top 50 ATG rankings
Nah. That is not enough for a top 50 place in a knowledgable and rational fan's top 50. Maybe in yours though.
Now that is exactly my point when it comes to people claiming fighters such as this are the greatest British fighter of all time. If you haven't seen any footage of him how can you state he's the best Brit of all time?
Although he gets overated by some, I feel he's clearly an atg. He also has his overzealous haters (anyone remember Cant Register? Made Pacfan seem like a Calzaghe nuthugger by comparison! ) here, so the grounds a little thin on the objectivity front at the moment.
