I understand your point there, but IMO you don't need to have seen footage to know who was the greatest, as long as you have read a lot about someone and know a lot about their career. Someone who has never seen footage of Sugar Ray Robinson could still state that he is the GOAT because they have did a lot of research on him. He couldn't be their favourite fighter, but they could say he was the greatest. I realize many may disagree with this view here, but I think it's a view most Classic posters subscribe to and one I never used to agree with, but now do.
Ok fair point but personally I think it's simply impossible to say who is the greatest Brit of all time mainly because of footage available and knowledge or lack of eras such as when Kid Lewis etc fought. Personally I will just judge on the Brits that I have seen plenty of footage on and have a much better understanding of their eras hence Calzaghe being my pick just ahead of Lewis.
lol....You're also ******ed or a corn ball...maybe both if you have trouble comprehending a sentence. And it wasn't even a full one!
I am not a fan of his but it would be churlish I think to deny him this status. Yes there are significant question marks against him, lots of inconsistent/uneven performances. He has also been fortunate that he came at a time when the very best had left the division etc. Had he been born 5 to 6years early could he have taken Toney, Nunn, McClellan, McCallum, peak Roy Jones, peak Eubank, Collins, Watson etc. We will not know though personally I doubt it. I cannot put him up there with the Hagler's the Sugar Ray's etc. I personally felt Hopkins beat him and exposed him. However his record makes him worthy of consideration as an ATG. Personally I won't miss him. A knockout defeat for him by Chad Dawson would be a fitting end.
I've witnessed his full 46-fight career and he has declined significantly over the last two years, he looked terrible against both Hopkins and Jones, very slow and immobile compared to back in the day. This stands testament to just how awesome a fighter he is, that he can still clown a fighter like Roy Jones even when Joe is clearly shot to pieces.
lol, utterly ******ed post. And who did Hopkins forge his 'greatness' against? Allen Johnson x3? Morade Hakker? His best wins came against men coming up in weight (ODH, Tito). Pavlik? He was overrated on a monolithic scale. Tarver? How good was he? Honestly? Hopkins is not that great. He's a ****ing spoiler too, fights very, very negatively, nobody looks good in beating Hopkins, not even prime RJJ.
Fallow oughta change his name to Swallow, considering the gallons of Calzaghe's man-goo he's gulped down over the years. What a ***.
i rate calzaghe second behind lewis. lewis will go down as an ATG heavy and in time calzaghe will go down as an ATG fighter and will move rapidly up the rankings when he has retired but IMO never above lewis.
