You don't understand his genius. He made his own system of catagorizing boxers :hey , all systems that leave out the Micro division are obsolete now. They pale in comparison to Fallow's. Sweet Pea, you know a lot about lower weight fighters, who do you think is the greatest Micro fighter ever? The Micro division is so deep, I just can't decide. 105lbs to 135lbs, think of all the great Micro's in history, there are so many. Now, I know Joe Calzaghe is the greatest Middleweight in history for obvious reasons as Fallow so brilliantly explained, but I think I read once that Calzaghe weighed under 130lbs as amateur, so I think Calzaghe is clearly the greatest Micro ever. What's your take? :rasta
WHAT!! I have almost every Joe C fight on DVD and Joe has vastly improved from what he was in his struggles in the middle of his career with guys like Ried to where he is now after getting the kind of ELITE level experience he was ready for 9 or 10 yrs ago. Joe didn't look horrible in either Hopkins or the Jones fight. He showed his full array of skills with Jones and actually made the Bhop fight entertaining...not to mention beating Bhop more soundly than anyone besides a prime ROy Jones. The one thing that I have notice is his reduction in speed, but overall he's a smarter, more experienced fighter and it shows in his most recent fights. Overall he is a lot better now than ever. This version of Joe beats any other version of Joe and that is undeniable....the Joe that beat Eubanks wouldn't be a match for the Joe C of today.
:huh No, I pretty much remember him. Britains best ever HWT & the best HWT in the world since prime Tyson, a right big ******* about 6`5 roughly. Im talking POUND FOR POUND..... if anyone seriously thinks Lennox was a better p4p fighter than Calzaghe then they should find a new sport, honestly, that **** isnt even funny. :-(
Well, I guess that depends on your definition of p4p, but Lewis fought the better competition, won in more impressive fashion and had a better amateur career.
Depends what comp your talking about, the best fighters Lewis beat were Holyfield (past prime & LL struggled in their 2nd fight), Tyson (complete shell) & Vitali (prime but was winning the fight & LL retired rather than rematch him) Calzaghe beat 2 prime no1 ranked supposedly great fighters in Lacy & Kessler (who still looks potentially great).... Jones was a shell but Hopkins is FAR from finished. Calzaghe has never even lost never mind get KOd by 2 `not great` fighters like LL was in Rahman & McCall. I suppose we can just agree to disagree.
What's the argument for Calzaghe ranking higher? That he is undefeated? He has nothing else over Lewis IMO.
Here is another Manny Steward quote - `I think Naseem Hamed is the greatest featherweight of all time.` I think you get my point, Steward is a strange little man. :nut
he dominated a competitive division when he was past his better days, he beat dominated and busted up taunted fighters when he was an old and considered shot. if he was 10 years younger he'd be convicted of manslaughter give the man a break
According to all the sportswriters I have come across so far; no, Calzaghe is definately not considered an ATG thus far.
See post 109.... Then throw in Joe`s 21 defences + the fact that he is actually the MORE SKILLFULL BOXER.
