Is Calzaghe an ATG ?

I don't see that. Lewis on his best night was an overall more impressive fighter to me than Calzaghe. Clearly a superior resume, generally beat his opponents in more dominant fashion, and Calzaghe's "dominance" comes into question considering the fact that another fighter was "dominating" his same division at the same time.

Emanuel Steward also described Calzaghe's record as "unbelievable" and maybe "one of the greatest fighters of all-time"

 

joe calzaghe isn't in the top three british boxers of all time, infact not even the best welsh boxer ever.

Heavyweight sentimentalism says that Lennox Lewis is an ATG and Joe Calzaghe is not, subjectivity seems to go out of the window when we’re dealing with boxing’s so-called flagship division.

I’m a big fan of Lennox Lewis and feel that he is greatly underappreciated, however, here are the facts:

• He has two losses on his ledger compared to Calzaghe’s 0. Not only that, those two losses were KO losses (one of them brutal) to two average fighters.
• The same arguments that are leveled against Calzaghe about some of his career defining wins coming against men who had seen better days can also be applied to Lewis.

I happen to think that the Kessler win alone is vastly superior to any win on Lewis’ record. Kessler was a grade-A bona fide world champion, a WBC and WBA unified Champion at that who had several very useful wins on his ledger including a 12 round annihilation of Andrade (the guy who ****ed Bute up a few weeks back). There was an army of people at this website who said he needed to fight and beat Kessler before he could be considered great. This win is so under-valued by Americans that it’s not even funny, and all because Kessler didn’t ply his trade on the supposed ‘tougher’ US circuit, comical. Calzaghe himself is living proof that you don’t need to fight in America to be **** hot.
