yeah, coz Jones didn't want to end the fight. :patsch

One of Calzaghe's gifts was his power of recovery. He was knocked down in both those fights, but he never looked liked anything like being counted out.

You're not being objective. You are just making things up to suit your argument, where as I am presenting you with actual facts: Calzaghe was never counted out in his career. Fact. Every time he was shaken he recovered quickly. Fact.

Your theory that Dawson would unquestionably KO Joe is therefore only happening in the recesses of your over-active imagination and not based on any actual previous events that have occurred during real life. Bless you.

There is a reason he came to the states finally to fight 2 old ass men, think on it. On top of that he would have been schooled by either one of them 5 years back just saying if you counted the cleaner more effective shots then he really lost to B-Hop.

Man, you guys are hard to please! He came to the states to fight cuz people over there was crying rivers of tears about they didn`t know who he was.. two old men my ass, who else should he have fought? Pavlik, Dawson!? he just beat Kessler, a guy who would have destroyed Pavlik and easily give Dawson hell! If Joe had fought Dawson before he retired and beat him.. No doubt the same guys who call Hopkins and Jones old men, would have called Dawson green and "never that good to begin with"
Btw Calzaghe aint a spring chicken either, Jones is only 3 years older ffs! This old men BS are getting ridicilous!

Calzaghe has a stamina that very few fighters in boxing history have had. rocky Marciano comes to mind. These guys enjoyed training, and were never out of shape between fights.

I have to say that those who bag on Calzaghe for fighting old man while holding Dawson up as an example have a somewhat skewed perception of irony.

The last time time he fought a man who was not significantly older than him was in April 06.

Really? So Tarver twice who is 13 years older than Dawson, Johnson, again 13 years older than Dawson, Mendoza 6 years older, Jesus Ruiz 9 years older, Adamek 5 years older( but a great win) and Harding 10 years older are an example of a fighter taking on the big challenges.

You can justify the first Tarver fight and Johnson is a good win but there is no doubt Dawson has a large physical advantage over most of those fighters. If any figher in the modern game has made a career of fighting old men it is Dawson.

Calzaghe takes on 2 fighters from his generation at the end of his career, one of them the freakish Hopkins and he gets unremitting **** over it. Double standards.

I think u really can't appreciate Joe if u don't know him career-wise. The guy use to KO guys in the early part of his career. Most of his wins came by KO, then. It wasn't until later on in his career did he start to have hand problems. He was as close to being a complete fighter as with other known boxers in boxing history.

you missed my point completely...i legitimately meant i didn't understand the comparison you were making.

    now i do.

you're talking about an up and coming fighter who is making his name in an aged division against a fighter with the world of skills who never wanted to test them against the best becasue he liked warren's philosophy of "cash first, respect second"..

for me, thats the true irony.

That is not my point. The guy was a complete fighter who had all the tools at one time, until his hands went brittle. He had everything ring smarts, speed, power all in one. I never said anything about him being great.
