Calzaghe was expected to move up since the division was weak but he was content fighting his second raters instead.

how can the greatest fighter in the division be someone who, by direct quote and admission, doesn't want tough fights... what a ludicrous idea.

joe must wish he could take those words back.

How are Jones or Ward arguable when Jones only has one fight that could be considered a top win and 2 of Wards top 5 wins are Calzaghe victims, where one could be argued isnt in Calzaghes top 10 wins

So you havent answered again and pulled another duck :oops:.
This thread is about SMW so what are you going on about now :patsch

:patsch Because they have the best resume, made a joint record defences in the division, was undefeated, won all of the titles.
Many fighters dont want tough fights dummy but like Calzaghe who took on the undefeated young champs in his division that would face him, still take them

Apart from Roy Jones no one beats Calzaghe and he Would have given Jones a great close fight, A 168 pounder who can throw 100 Punches (or even slaps) a round is not easy to beat

you must someone else, joe didn't want tough fights that would yield a good resume.

if you have a problem with this view, phone calzaghe and ask him why he endorses this view, don't ask me. I cant tell you why he didn't want tough fights. I cannot tell you why he said this. but he did.

If you want my personal view, my own view is that if I was a champion, I would take the best opponents tough fights, and NEVER personally say that I didn't want them.

The fights were a weight above and he was outgrowing the division. It was so weak he still won even while weight drained

I guess if you live in topsy turvey land where being a top level champion means taking on weak opponents, then you have a point.

but in this world it works the other way. You fight the best to be world champions, which means very tough standards and opps.

explain why a guy who had matched benn and eubank and chased roy jones would be scared of someone who to that point had fought nobody of interest.

once you've done that your task becomes infintely more difficult, explain why anyone with a bad brain MRI should enter the ring against anyone.

    iceskating uphill....

That's a completely different thing. You can fight the best but that doesn't mean you want the fight to be tough. Everybody would rather the fight be easy for them.
