If we're using 'greatness' to define ability then he's definately up there, I wouldn't say no.1 though. If on the other hand we're talking about actual achievements then he's not even the "greatest" now, let alone of all time. Compare Hatton and Calzaghe's best 5 or so victories and imo Hatton's count for more.
**** no. First off, his resume sucks. Second off, you can argue the 'longevity' thing, and say that his 10 year championship reign is more impressive, but that period was a joke, he fought absolute cans in that period. Abd thirdly, the **** does not have the mentality of a great. He cares most about money and has ducked numerous fighters, and has pulled the ***** move of his career by fighting a washed up grandpa, and ducked Pavlik. Lennox Lewis, Jimmy Wilde, Nigel Benn are the greater.
Just outside the top 10: 1. Jimmy Wilde 2. Bob Fitzsimmons 3. Jim Driscoll 4. Ted Kid Lewis 5. Owen Moran 6. Ken Buchanan 7. Jackie Kid Berg 8. Freddie Welsh 9. Lennox Lewis 10. Benny Lynch
Post war, Calzaghe is right up there. So is Lewis. However, Ted Kid Lewis is the best British boxer, PERIOD! www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=011911&cat=boxer His record speak for itself.
