A good comparison, both are home town boys (fight in their own country), both held WBO title, Michaelchewski beat a HOF lightheavy Virgil Hill, Calzaghe has never faced a HOF or P4P. who has the edge?
The majority of p4p fighters are hometown boys by your definition Also, why does it matter? Calzaghe is much the better fighter, and has the better resume Hope this helps
Better fighter technically Yes...Joe is....but resume...they are similar but DM has the better resume only b/c he did beat Virgil Hill and Richard hall, Rocky G., Montell Griffin and a few other bigger names.
what does hometown boys mean ? toney/mosley/mayweather/jones/tarver/dawson/taylor/pavlik/williams/mallinaggi/ whats that 300 to 400 fights between them and not a single one in there opponents backyard. fair enough IMO they fight where there money is, but why then hold europeans to a different standard. and mr president d/m was from poland. not sure what your geography is like but poland and germany are different countries/have different languages/just like america and mexico well parts of florida/texas/new mexico/california/ exempted.
what was the name of the anti calzaghe troll here the last few weeks ? maybe a look at this mr president and the other muppet might show the same I/P number.
Hometown boy comments are stupid! Most fighters especially the best American and German/German based fighters mostly fight in the same country for their whole career. DM record is slightly better than JC but dont exaggerate about the quality of DM opponents compared to JC.
Virgil Hill is the only great fighter on his resume. The others like Richard hall (achieved nothing), Rocky G (schooled by Eubanks), Montell Griffin (KOed by RJJ), Piper (destroyed by Benn) were all good fighters but all coming of terrible defeats and on the slide.
I agree with you on that but those other fighters are very good names in the Lt HW division. Even with that said DM still has more depth to his resume than that of Joe C. Which is pretty shameful.:deal
Short - sighted analysis of DM. Dariusz beat the two guys who beat James Toney, plus Hill before he faced Roy Jones, plus being the first to knock out Rocchigiani. One glitch in Dariusz' resume is the frst fight with Rocchigiani, he was getting beaten, plain and simple, the ref was horrible. That said, I feel that Calzaghe is also often underestimated - ten years unbeaten without ever needing his often - mentioned hometown advantage on the scorecards is impressive.
Calzaghe has UNIFIED the titles - michaelczewski was happy to defend his wbo title in front of his german or polish crowd.
