Obvoiusly Calzaghe vs Pavlik would be a great fight but I think calzaghe vs pavlik would be bad for boxing in the long run. If calzaghe schools pavlik which is highly likey, Calzaghe get rated highly but then retires soon after. Where does that leave Pavlik, he could become the new face of american boxing and fill the gap left by mayweather and de la hoya (if they dont come back). So if calzaghe schools pavlik and makes him look average who would fill the gap then?

The fight is bad for Boxing, Pavlik, and what fans he now has because he's a winner.

The fight is good for neutrals, Joe, and his fans.

Pavlik could be the one to fill the gap left by mayweather and de la hoya. He could create a lot of intrest in boxing and help keep boxing alive. If Calzaghe makes pavlik look average he probably wont be the one to fill that gap left, so then who fills it and becomes the face of american boxing?

I'd rather have the real deal fill their gap. If he losses to JC then at least we know the truth. I only want to see him fight the best out there.

    Exactly.

Can't see it being a bad thing. If Pavlik fails the test he can still come back; not everyone is as obssesed with unbeaten records as the Brits are (thinking Frank "the Wank" Warren here).

Well said! My thoughts exactly. The boxer should pave his way to greatness. Not be lead there by avoiding dangerous fights. THAT is why boxing is losing appeal.

I'm assuming you mean De La Hoya is a big name, because he hasn't been a major p4p talent in years.
