This is a good post. I give you respect in that you support your fighter but tell it like it is. Head to head, maybe Calzaghe would have beaten a few ATG in their primes like Jones or Hopkins. But unfortunately, we will never know because he never stepped up when the time was right. And in terms of legacy and ATG rankings, you can only base them on what the fighter actually did, and not what he would've done. If that were the case then guys like Tony Ayala and Ike Ibeabuchi would be ATG status because of their immense skills...even though they never made it to championship level because of legal troubles.
His legacy is falling apart a little bit. I think historically outside the UK he will be remembered for his forgettable title defences and the fact that he fought only one great fighter and IMO lost. I don't want to belittle the Lacy and Kessler wins, but years from now if we mention those names people will just ask, WHO? His lack of power and slapping style were also serious deficiencies although he was World Class in other areas. He could have been great...
Was the RJJ win ever a big deal in Calzaghe fans' eyes? It wasn't to me, I know that much. And has anyone ever considered that Ward just might be THAT good? Time will tell; let's not jump to conclusions.
He'll get in for sure. Boxing fans will ***** and moan 'til they're blue in the face, but he will be inducted.
About the only thing Calzag is borderline, is borderline *****! The guy had so many KO's, who the **** was he fighting? He couldnt KO an old BHOP or RJJ, the guy has no power. Makes his resume very questionable.
