What is everyones obsession with calzaghe everytime someone he fought loses. Does this mean shane mosleys legacy is now fukall because pacman destroyed him and cotto beat mosley. Is pacquiaos legacy fukd because mayweather schooled marquez and pacman only just beat him? Give me a break, calzaghe has retired get over yourselfs

U ***gots, the only legacy that is falling to pieces is roy jones legacy, not Joe Calzaghes.
Calzaghe is ATG, 10 years as champion at smw and retired undefeated 46-0.If Calzaghe is not ATG then I dont know who is.Robinson, Leonard both retired after getting beat up by nobodys and lost in there primes and were ko'd.Hagler lost to little man Leonard in his prime.Duran was ko'd in his prime.

His legacy was that of a stay at home fighter who avoided quality competition for his whole career, until the good fighters got old. No change.

No, he always has and always has been a legend.
You saw what hopkins did to pavlik after his fight with calzaghe,
You saw what jones did to sheika and lacy after his fight.
His a legend, and nothing can change that.

There's a big difference betwen Calzaghe and those other fighters you mentioned. And that is that he has very few definitive, career making fights to hang his hat one. He has Kessler, Hopkins, Jones, and Lacy. That' s about it. And that is rather spare for a supposed ATG. So, when the greatness of any of these wins comes into question, it damages the Calzaghe legacy.

I love how not a single person outside of the UK has come to JC's defense with something other than "he never lost."

And also, how none of you addressed what I said above, that is:

46-0, ELEVEN years as champ at 168 and 175, and only ONE fight against a Top 10 P4P fighter. By split decision.

That is quite a toothless legacy for a Top 100 ATG.

Roy Jones Junior could get gender reassignment surgery tomorrow and then get knocked out by a female boxer with a losing record and he would still have five times the resume of Joe Calzaghe. Nice try, though.

Erdei beat the linear champ at 175lbs and a WBC Cruiserweight belt holder at 200lbs. Calzaghe beat a Eubank who had lost to Steve Collins twice.
At the time the Super middleweight division for years consisted of Benn, Eubank, Collins etc... then Reid, Woodwalls, Beyers. On top of the pile were Calzaghe and Ottke who you have a good argument to say were beaten but got the decision against Robin Reid.

10+ of the WBO defences meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Points wins against Eubank, Reid, Lacy, Kessler, Jones and Hopkins look decent. But, they were points wins, some of them close.

Reid lost to Ottke and Lacy.
    Lacy lost to Taylor.
    Kessler exposed.
    Jones to Green.

It tells us that Calzaghe could beat top level fighters on points. Consistently.

However, his legacy has to take a big hit. Kessler was a flop, Jones was shot, Lacy one dimensional.

Calzaghe lasted so long because he took no serious challenges for 9-10 years.

In comparison, Froch has done great things. He stopped Taylor, beat perhaps a rising star in Pascal and beat Dirrel. Froch could have made 10 defences during Calzaghe's reign no problem.

Bute, Ward, Froch, Abraham are the new blood. Shame Calzaghe wasn't 28-30 now.

Calzaghe isnt an ATG but hes a HOF.

I'm a fan of his plus im Welsh but cmon his resume is pathetic to be classed as an ATG.

Mosley's legacy is not built on the Cotto fight as he beat better fighters than Cotto when he was in his prime. Pacquiao fought a better version of Marquez than PBF and he also beat Barrera.

Sheika & lacy are bums....and Pavlik lost to a legend..theres no shame in that..

just like Calzaghe did..ONCE AGAIN theres no shame in that

Roy had been badly shot for many years now..and needs to retire before he gets permanently injured

I respect your opinion.....but JC is nothing close to a legend...he retired when he had SO MUCH TO PROVE

and sadly Floyd Mayweather is also walking in his footsteps and need to step it up before we start labeling him as a fraud as well

Steve Collins would have given him a hell of a fight, he had the perfect relentless brawling style to give Calzaghe fits.
