Is Calzaghes legacy resting only on his win against prime Kessler?

No I believe a 40's Hopkins was his best win....Kessler is a close but clear second. Everything after that is such a grey area though he performed well vs Veit, Eubanks and Lacey. Lacey was painfully limited and I'm not sure why anyone thought he would win the fight vs joe, the guy struggled with journey men. Rjj and Eubanks where shells of their former selves I mean rjj was literally half the man he used to be.

    No.

Calzaghe has the best SMW resume of all time.. Hopkins was a better win than Kessler IMO anyway, it was not as controversial as it gets made out to be. Calzaghe won clearly.

Kessler was injured going into the fight, Hopkins was past prime and a draw would have been fair, and of course Roy was shot to pieces.

Kessler, Eubank, a couple other solid-but-not-great ones acoustic far acoustic quality (Reid, Veit, etc) and longevity - that's what he rests on. Beating old versions of Jones and to a lesser extent Hopkins don't really augment his standing any more than just being names on his record.

I don't know if I would call Kessler a great win. But since Kessler beat hall of fame-worthy Carl Froch perhaps you can. Calzaghes record is built up around his ability to hold down a bunch of strong and able fighters. His best wins (Kessler, Eubank, Hopkins) is at least borderline great, and his accomplishments adds up.

Kessler in his prime was terrific. People forget how competitive he was against Calzaghe (and injured no less, and unlike SOME PEOPLE kept a lid on that and didn't come out with it to excuse himself, sportsman that he is) and how many adjustments Calzaghe had to make on the fly...more than in any other fight of his career. :deal

    Calzaghe's best 5 wins:

Chris Eubank (who was 31 years old)
Robin Reid (former champ who easily beat Sven Ottke)
Sakio Bika (former champ in his prime)
Mikkel Kessler (champ in his prime)
Bernard Hopkins (champ very close to his prime)

wow, super joe is a legit ATG and the legit best ever 168 lb fighter in my eyes.

its funny, only the very best current fighter and fighters retired within the past era are bashed on here as over hyped fighters, I don't understand some of you clowns.

the hate on here is unreal and all it does is prove without a reasonable doubt you're just haters and truly DKSAB nor want to learn anything about boxing.

fcuking morons to the enth degree

Passion is a good thing :yep

That being said I'm quite sure you understand the hidden agenda here. I'm not even remotely close to a Joe C fan however I respect what he's accomplished and also rank him amongst the best 168lbs if not the best. Its unfortunate he didn't get the chance to to fight the Wards and even the focused Dawson's of the world….some other hypo match ups would have included Archie Moore, Spinx and others at 175lbs we will never know. :good

Calzaghe is the best SMW of all time and beat a prime Kessler, but that's not really saying much.

A green Ward beat Kessler and became a top 5 ATG at SMW without really having to do much. It's honestly not a big accomplishment.
