Is Calzaghes legacy resting only on his win against prime Kessler?

Yeah, Kessler was a good fighter but the way a green Ward schooled him put Calzaghe's performance into perspective.

Calzaghe beating Kessler was a case of a good fighter losing a competitive fight against a slightly better good fighter. Whereas Ward vs Kessler was a good fighter getting totally outclassed by an elite fighter.

Eh, no more so than usual, the big china-handed goober. He should've gotten those problems sorted with surgery much earlier In his career, and by then was used to fighting with brittle mitts.

Kessler on the other hand soldiered through a bad injury after having been accustomed to fighting healthy for most of his career, and like a trooper never uttered a peep. (it was third parties that leaked the news)

Even Joe acknowledged what an honorable guy he was for not making a fuss or excuse of his injuries - AND said he was his toughest opponent (and perhaps the only person he fought in the pros that gave him momentary doubts of "shiiit, I might actually lose!" before making all the adjustments he needed to make)

Kessler was injured before the fight even happened. I think Joe's dad still had to drag Calzaghe into the ring for the fight to happen.

Kessler was a great, great fighter at that time and is one of the truest gentlemen we've seen for a long, long while. No shame in losing to Super Joe and his glassy mitts. :nod

    No.
Only someone who hasnt got a clue about SMW or the division over the years would think that.
As well as prime undefeated Kessler, there was prime undefeated Lacy, then include all these other fighters who either had, were to or holding a SMW title that Calzaghe beat in Eubank, Brewer, Veit, Reid, Woodhall, Bika, Mitchell.
Just look at how fighters he beat like Veit beat Brahmer a current LHW champ, Starie beat Woods a LHW champ, Sheika beat Johnson a LHW champ and thats before he went on to beat 2 top 10 rated American legends at LHW as soon as he jumped up in weight.
    Calzaghe causes so much insecurity

Ward beat faded, rusty, unwell, double vision suffering Kessler but also struggled with faded rusty Bika that Calzaghe clearly beat

A green Ward with no title fights and no pro elite level experience toyed with a prime, more seasoned Kessler 2 years after his humble defeat with Joe. After Kessler got embarrassed by this green Ward, he would go on to have the biggest win in his career.

Like I said before, a GREEN nervous Ward in his first title fight embarrassed the supposed 2nd best SMW of his generation. Ward went on to become a top 5 ATG Super Middleweight without really having to do much. The man hasn't really entered his prime yet and it was that easy..

Its a never ending battle for you brother, I understand you view Joe as a sort of Demi-God however it can't be that difficult to accept that others still find his career and status as half full.

Ward was green at that point and he did far better than Joe, bare in mind Kessler was injured in the Calzaghe fight. If you compare the wins against Bika, they were equally impressive, if anything, Bute did a better job than anyone.

u just write lies, failey. brahmer has never been a LHW champ, he hold the 2nd tier title only, never anything above it. beating a crude protected bully like him as a claim to fame shows how weak your argument is.

lies again, woods didn't fight him for a title at all. starie only got a title shot against the two fakers joe calzaghe and sven ottke.

Rewind. A green Ward? You mean a Ward entering his prime in his coming out party?

Ward had only had 20 fights, the vast majority of people were predicting Kessler to KO Ward, look good doing it and go on to win the whole Super 6. Kessler was the bookies favorite to win the tournament and an even bigger favorite to beat Ward.

Now obviously these people were wrong but at the time many people saw Kessler beating Ward as foregone conclusion. Calzaghe fans were also desperate for Kessler to do well as he gave Joe a tough fight and is his best win at SMW, so when Ward schooled him they didn't like and that is why many Calzaghe fans are very hostile towards Ward.
