is Calzaghe's record any worse than Rocky Marciano?

It was not the social politics of the times or even Ali Weill that failed to get Valdes and Baker a title shot. Try blaming a guy named Archie Moore. Had Moore not defeated Valdes and Baker to his climb to Marciano, they would have goting there shots.

at the time of the Marciano-Moore fight! Nino Valdez was the leading contender in the heavyweight division. But he was never given a title shot.

the Marciano people were ducking him, his manager Al Weill did not want Marciano to fight Valdez.

When I recently watched the tape of the Marciano-Moore fight again, of the whole fight. I noticed Valdez was there that night, and did a walk through in the ring, and it was announced that he was at the time of that fight the leading heavyweight contender.

The first fights with Roland LaStarza, Ted Lowry, and Jersey Joe Walcott (whom Rocky won the title from, not Charles) were tougher fights than the fight with Archie Moore.

Marciano took a short spill against Moore, then whupped him. The decisions against LaStarza and Lowry were regarded as debatable, and Walcott was officially ahead on points after 12 against Marciano.

Hell, the Ezzard Charles fights were probably tougher for Marciano. Certainly the 2nd fight with Charles was more of a dangerous, near-defeat fight for Marciano.

Valdez had just lost his last 2 fights when Marciano fought Moore. To Moore and Satterfield. Then he lost in four of his next six fights.

If Valdez deserved his title shot, it was in the 1953-1954 period, after he beat Charles. Other guys had moved in front of Valdez by the time Marciano fought Moore.

It was Moore, not Valdez that was the number 1 contender when Moore step into the ring. A few months early, Archie Moore beat Valdez to nab the slot.

How many titles were around in Calzaghe's day?
How many titles were around in Maricano's day?

How many title defenses did Sven Ottke make?
How many has Zsolt Erdie made?
How many defenses did Ray Robinson make?

I assume you're trolling, but please, do a better job at it.

6 times and for a heavyweight thats a LOT.

Only Ali, Burns, and Joe Louis got double digents.

    Louis 25
Holmes 20, depends when you consider his lineal rein.
    Burns 11 or 10 I forgot.
    Than the numbers drop major.
Tyson made 9 I belive, only 3 if you count lineal.
Holyfiled had about 5 or 6 in his 4 title rein, He never held it long any way. Way less as lineal champ of couse.
Marciano, Patterson, and Jack Johnson 6 apeice.
    Jack Dempsey may 5.
George Foreman made 3 young and old.
    Frazier made 4
    Liston manage 1 title defense.
    Willard 1
    Corbett 1
    Fitz 0
    Gene Tunney 2
    Baer, Braddock, made 0.
    Primo 2
    Schmeling 1

I mean when compare to other heavyweights MArciano is about in the middle of the pack in regards to defenses.

Oh for christ's sake everyone knows Calzaghe feasted on nobodies his entire career or has beens.

Jeff Lacy was the one exception and look what he turned out to be. A joke.

I don't think Kessler looked bad. I give Joe credit. He adapted and went into another gear, and Kessler couldn't adjust.

Kessler did seem rather hesitant though in the latter half of the fight, which I attribute to Calzaghe hitting harder than people often give him credit for. He slaps a lot, but gets away with it because his hands are probably fairly heavy to begin with, and mixes in some hard shots that he turns over in with his slaps.

I still hate the way Calzaghe punches. It's so ugly.
