Is Calzaghe's win over Jeff Lacy more impressive than Crawford's win over Canelo

I wouldn’t dispute that.

Personally, I think that Canelo is vastly overrated by many fans.

However, he certainly wasn’t levels below Mikkel Kessler.

If you’ve followed the thread in its entirety, that was one of my main points.

Kessler and Froch were very good fighters. But neither of them were great or ATG’s.

You can say that they were HOF fighters. But not ATG’s. They weren’t good enough to be ATG’s.

If you’re talking about at SMW specifically, then that’s debatable.

But they’re certainly not in general.

 

So, Crawford gets no credit for beating Canelo because Canelo wasn't prime like he was 10 years ago. Mayweather doesn't get credit because Canelo was too green.

 

Much of Crawfords win over Alvarez is smoke & mirrors.. they're both on the gear & neither of em are these so called giant slayers they try to make em out to be.. because they've both weighed in excess of 180lbs for years... they're just short.. of course Historically Crawfords win will rank higher cos Canelo is far greater than Lacy ever was, but the Alvarez Crawford beat was almost washed too..

Calzaghe Lacy was supposed to be a changing of the guard match.. it is mainly noteworthy for the genius of the performance .. you literally watched the prime beat out of someone in real time.. undoubtedly the American was overrated but I also think Calzaghe dished out such a masterful beating that Jeff was never going to be the same again.

People will scoff at your OP but Lacy at least could punch.. he had recently stopped Reid & Vanderpool which is something men like Bhop, Johnson, Malinga & Nardiello couldn't do.. Alvarez hadn't had a 168lb stoppage since 2021 over Caleb Plant. His performances were diminishing.

The Lacy fight is one of the standout performances of the 21st century for me. I can watch it over & over.. The Crawford fight was ****, but the spin will tell you its one of the greatest wins of all time LOL
