Except he DID NOT beat GGG did he? That first fight was a horrible decision.
Lara was a SPLIT DECISION not like Canelo made a big statement.
Callum Smith has done what? We aren't talking potential we are talking ACHIEVEMENTS are we not?
Name 3 fighters that you consider Smiths best wins.
Watson was a very good fighter and if I'm being honest I'm not so sure Canelo beats him.

He beat GGG up and made him an insignificant fighter after their two bouts(GGG was the number 1 MW in the world) he beat Lara while Lara was the number 1 JMW in the world after Floyd decided to stay and campaign at 147. He beat Callum Smith who was the lineal and number 1 fighter at 168. If we're talking strictly about achievements, it's not even close. Eubank never unified, won two WBO belts in diff weight classes that were meaningless and insignificant in the 90's and early 00's. Eubank was never the man at 160 or 168 and never beat the man. Achievements, resume and cultural impact all go to Canelo by far, not sure why this is even a discussion.

This is one of the stupidest things to discredit Canelo for. This is boxing, when the best is fighting the best, when the elite guys are fighting each other. So Lara lost in a close competitive fight. What's f*cking wrong with that? What literally is f*cking wrong with that?

The first fight could have gone either way

The first fight was an outright ROBBERY and you know it.
The 2nd fight you could have made that argument.
The Lara fight was razor thin why no rematch?

Eubank took out both Watson and Benn.
Eubank beat Maligna who was a very good boxer and latter win titles.
Eubank went over to Germany and beat up Rocky who at the time was undefeated and also a huge tall Southpaw.
Eubank beat Wharton who was a pretty good puncher.
    Beat Holmes. Beat Thornton.
Gave JC one of his hardest fights.
Eubank has plenty of accomplishments and he did it the hard way.
Callum Smith has done NOTHING but disappoint in his career. All that potential just flushed away.

Calzaghe, Jones and Toney were all better than Eubank in that era. I don't like Canelo personally, but who is better at his weights?

There is a better case for Thompson losing to Eubank then Canelo beating GGG.

I have tried very hard to stay out of all of the contentious Canelo Alvarez threads so I can't believe I am doing this.

I'm amazed this thread has over 50 responses. Chris Eubank was a very good boxer but Alvarez is the preeminent fighter of the last eight years. (If you want to say Usyk is I won't argue but it doesn't change the reply to the Eubank question.) Alvarez defended the 154 pound title six times. He beat the top man at both middleweight and light heavyweight. That is what actually happened not what you or I think should have happened. Then he unified the 168 pound division.

Yes, Canelo is a better fighter than Chris Eubank Sr.

That’s not really a valid argument when you look at Chris’s era compared to Canelo. You could make an argument Canelo wasn’t the man at 155lbs Mayweather humiliated him at a minor catch weight and at 160lbs GGG won first, lost the second but a third was never made and if it is it’ll mean very little... At LHW Canelo beat a shot Kovalev... He is the man at 168lbs ruling over Saunders and Plant...

Good post. However Canelo has lost only once to an atg, which isn't the case with Eubank. I don't like Canelo personally because he has manipulated weights due to his popularity almost as well as Leonard when he did it. However Canelo is a lot better than someone like me felt when he was at 160 due to the fact that he hasn't lost since Mayweather. Whose resume is better- Canelo's or Eubank's? And Eubank got a couple of gifts to lesser fighters than GGG.

Evem allowing for the favours Canelo has received, he is still "better" than Eubank. Being P4P nowadays is in my opinion much easier today than in Eubank's time (the standard currently is nowhere what it was in Eubank's time - let alone the 802s!) but if Eubank was active today I don't believe he would be close to P4P number 1.

Let's not forget that Eubank himself received some pretty big favours from judges in his own career...

Calum Smith as dangerous as Nigel Benn? Even Calum himself would say that's wrong.

Lol I said arguably since you can argue the other way too haha. Maybe I was looking in more of the total body of work when assessing greatness and Cotto did a lot more with his career legacy-wise than Eubank. But in terms of prime wins, Eubank has a really good argument tho with wins over Watson and Benn.
