You mean everyone has an opinion as what an ATG is. To me to be an ATG, you should be at least be within the all-time top five in at least one weight division. Alvarez doesn't meet that criteria. lol at Alvarez having the wins. I don't see it but "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
Why? What's you definition? He is in mine, an ATG is a wide ranging title, I'd call Marquez an ATG but he wouldn't make my top 100. Same with Tyson
He has the names, but look when he fought them. He should’ve fought GGG in 2016 after the Cotto fight, but waited for the older GGG to get older and arguably lost the first fight. He won the rematch with GGG, but GGG was also 36 years old and grew old overnight. Mosley is a good name, but was 41 years old and coming off back to back losses to Floyd, PAC, and barely managed a draw against Sergio Mora. Cotto was 35 years old and was a manufactured middleweight champion and shamelessly ducked GGG, so beating Cotto at 160 doesn’t mean much. Khan was coming off a 1 year layoff and was moving up a division.
It's quite sad really, because there is enough talent and potential fights to create a good 10 ATGs this era
Arguing against Canelo because he didn't fight Golovkin in 2016, but DID fight him in 2017, 2018 and it looks like 2019, is laughable. They're going to have a trilogy, and you guys are saying it doesn't matter because it didn't start 12 months earlier? I'm going to go out on a limb and say NOBODY is going to care in a couple years. And anyone saying Canelo couldn't handle the likes of Zale, Graziano, LaMotta, Fullmer, Walker, etc. ... hell, he'd beat those guys half to death.
Which version of GGG did he vacate the title for. He vacated the belt, failed a drug test too. His legacy is one for apologists and cheaters to appreciate.
GGG was his mandatory for years. Nit just for 2016. The fight should have happened years and I mean years before when Canelo was the MW champion.
I agree it doesn't matter all to much, but you asked when he gave up a belt to not fight someone, I told you Nuff said there Agreed He'd be KOed by a prime Graziano and most likely Zale (although the only footage is way past his prime) Walker was a beast and a natural Welterweight, and yet he was KOing and outboxing LHWs and HWs he'd stomp Canelo in the most brutal form. Ask that question in the Classic section for more info No one beats a LaMotta 'half to death'. He has imo the best chin pfp, but if not an incredible one, Canelo would probably win over 12 (15 is another matter) but would definitely not get a KO Fulmer outboxed Robinson (albeit past prime but he was still better than Canelo) and you telling me he can't Canelo. Ok....
