He went up to fight Bivol in an attempt to cherrypick a title at 175. Bivol was the lesser of two evils (Beterbiev being the other).

It was a calculated risk and Canelo miscalculated. No one was asking for a Bivol fight in the first place; no one cares about the rematch.

I always predicted Benavidez smashes him so no surprise. They can see its a terrible match up. Once Canelos gas tank goes, Benavidez wouldn't be as merciful as Bivol.

Maybe before seeing Benavidez against Plant, Canelo would have had some reason to avoid him. But after seeing that performance, be serious. Benevidez got exposed enough to take the edge off his reputation.
