Wtf fight were you watching? Kovalev used the perfect game plan to outbox Canelo on the outside despite his shot punch resistance. Every time Kovalev would try to commit to power shots Canelo would counter him with vicious shots that had Kovalev on high alert. Kovalev was actually winning the last 3 rounds before he got KO'd on all judges scorecards and I thought he was clearly winning the fight, certainly came the closest to outboxing Canelo since the Lara fight. Canelo came out in the 11th extremely aggressive because he knew he was losing the fight, he was throwing monstrous counters but since Kovalev was tired and never knew how to properly clinch cost him the fight. Extremely underrated performance by Canelo, but understandably critiqued since Kovalev didn't have enough time to recover and rest between fights, especially for a high profile fight such as Alvarez. I believed he fought the best he could given the circumstances, but a fix? You don't get knocked out like that in a fix.

That’s because you don’t understand that Canelo’s head movement and explosive counter punching negates the jab. Kovalev and Smith weren’t committing to their jabs because they quickly realised they would be eating heavy counters. That’s why Kovalev was using a touching jab to try and keep distance. That’s also why it looked like a sparring session at times.

The fight was as obvious a spar as it gets.. Any attempt at intellectual analysis here is futile

No, look at the fight closely. Canelo hurt Kovalev badly in the previous round for the first time, and hurt him earlier in the round he stopped him. The same left hook that stopped him on his feet for the right hand finish.

    Meaning what?It was fixed?
Kovalev’s style under McGirt was largely what he showed vs Alvarez.

How are you even serious? For anyone to think it was a fix or a sparring session, go watch another sport because you’re clearly not understanding this one.

    Yes fixed.
This is worryingly deluded take on Kovalevs performance against Canelo.

Kovalev demonstrated none of his attributes he showed against previous bigger opponents (including essentially cruisers in Eledier and Yarde). He showed minimal lateral and in and out movement, zero hesitation to Canelo's punches and looked like he didn't give af in the ring. This is not to mention the blatant pulling of punches and not fully extending or commiting to any straight punches throughout the entirety of the fight. These are all things he has shown against previous heavier and bigger punching opponents. Cruiser Yarde might be limited ring IQ wise but he is certainly a decent fast counterpuncher and hits very hard.. Just look and compare how he reacts to Yarde and Canelo when they throw punches... He is hesitant against Yarde and the opposite against Canelo. But he is scared of Canelo's super duper counterpunching... This stuff is just obvious.

Canelo is a good counterpuncher (he is overrated in this regard by many casuals to be some godlike counterpuncher) . His counterpunching ability is not to the extent his opponent forgets all ingrained attributes and fails to sit down on any punch. There are many examples where a better counterpuncher has faced much stiff resistance than Canelo face from Kovalev.

You may attempt to argue that Kovalev was scared of Canelo's power. Kovalev has fought bigger and heavier punching guys and reacted much more hesitantly to their punches than Canelo's. Canelos the guy who could barely knock out anyone at 154lbs (apart from chinny 140lber Khan and past it average Kirkland).

I wouldn't call this "fight" even a sparring session.. Because sparring is way more intense than that shite

I thought Kovalev was clearly winning the fight until he was knocked out tbh.

Sparring or not, Bivol will definitely be knocked out by Canelo.

Bivol is pure one dimensional. He does straight combinations & in and outs. That's all. You can't see him throwing body punches, uppercuts or even proper hooks. He doesn't know how to defence is body either.

I can already see Bivol suffering on his knees and quitting after a hard punch to the liver by Canelo. Yes, the knock out will come from a liver shot.

Kovalev fought cautiously because he was a diminished once excellent warrior. Unfortunately for him Andre Ward took his souls and he has never been or could ever be the same Krusher. Furthermore prior to the Canelo fight he had been stopped by Alvarez and was almost stopped by Yarde a few weeks before so what happened against Canelo was hardly surprising. Frankly I did not like the way Canelo looked at Light Heavyweight. Make no mistake the Bivol fight is one he can lose.
