After an amazing performance vs a former LWW, is he finally ready to take on the best contenders in his division?

I think he's ready, and I'd really like to see Canelo-Lara. But I'm not sure it makes any business sense for Golden Boy to take him in that direction. I think there are bigger marketing opportunities available for him where there's more money and better odds in his favor.

They haven't maneuvered him this carefully only to get reckless and lose the plot.

The business aspects of boxing like this, of course, suck.

But it remains a reality, still.

As far as business goes kirkland makes sense imo
With canelos power and skill i can see him doin what perro did, beauty of a right hand counter setting a trap and punishing kirkland for taking the bait, with oit being a complete dumbass and punching himself out.

    I feel your pain!

I updated my facebook status to read "Interesting night of boxing. I know it won't happen any time soon, but I'd love to see Canelo vs. Lara. Crazy 12th round in SM-Jr" 2 hours ago.

It just doesn't make sense for Golden Boy to do that. I think Lara is awesome, his lead right hook that him and Ronnie are working on is a true work of art, and I have no idea who would win a fight between Canelo and Lara. It would tell us so much about both guys that I'd really like to know, just as many fans would.

But in terms of a marketing commodity, Canelo has far greater prospects.

It is what it is, and I do not totally blame Canelo. I think he's far from reaching his full potential, and I think a fight with Cotto is much closer to his future than Lara (even if I'd much prefer Lara as a fan).

Mexico vs PR, revenge for his brother Jose Cotto, it has the storylines for a classic fight. This is all assuming Cotto gets past Trout, who I expect to put up stiff resistance.

at first glance i thought Lara would blow him out of the water, but canelo looks like a beast today. I'm still leaning towards Lara.

Canelo has Cotto Trout Winner next, where the Risk Rewards him.....and it pays a lot.

Money wise this fight will never get made unless Lara makes a name for himself by getting a belt and scalping some heads... struggling with a WW doesn't do much for him really.

I'd love to see Canelo pound him though, but I know money wise and business wise it will never happen unless Lara goes on the Martinez route, becomes big and forces a fight.
