Is canelo the biggest cherry picker in the game?

This bizarre state of affairs, which to be fair has always existed in varying degrees, which sees Canelo classed as a middleweight despite stepping into the ring at anywhere from 170 to 175 (at least) when he fights at that weight, is made more bizarre when he supposedly "moves up 2 weight classes".

No, let's be honest, he simply didn't cut as much weight for that fight compared to his usual routine.

At 160 he sheds weight to make that 160, then proceeds to rehydrate and bulk up so come fight night, as he stands in his corner waiting for the bell for round one, he's not weighing 160 at all.

Now, suppose a guy who is actually a genuine 160 lbs fighter then faces a guy who is closer to 170.

    Is that fair?

Is Spence jnr making 147 then staying at 147 and starts a fight at 147?

Or, is he more like 155, or 160 even?

A natural welterweight stands little chance.

There is a name for this type of tactic.

Anyway, my laboured point is that Canelo is probably more like a genuine light heavyweight than a middleweight if you are talking about the simple act of what he weighs at the start of a fight.

So, if he is actually more likely a light heavyweight then why not fight Beterbiev?

Would he be exposed as pretty feather fisted against a real 175 like Beterbiev?

    Just asking.

My opinion of Canelo is he is slick, obviously well drilled, is game, and is clearly able to hold his own with anyone at middleweight (even though i think he's the definition of a weight bully); but, his win over Fielding and this win over Kovalev do not make him a legitimate 4 weight champion in my eyes.

    Beat Callum Smith at 168.

    Beat Beterbiev at 175.

Then he'll have genuine kudos from real boxing people.

Anything else is just biased, fan driven, dishonesty.

Kovalev obviously was weary of getting countered and didn't want to open up. Doesn't this seem more logical than him falling completely off a cliff in the last 2 months?

A murderous puncher? Did you see the fight, he hardly threw a punch over 30% power. Canelo wanted a light heavyweight title and picked the easiest champion he could have, how is that not a cherry pick?

Mike Tyson was a absolute beast but that didn’t stop him becoming a easy big name victory in the end . Just because you were great it doesn’t mean your always gonna be great .

I had it a draw going into the 11th. MANY people had Kovalev ahead, and justifiably so. I see some pathetic attempts at trying to make this look the opposite of what it was. This wasn’t a cake walk in the park for either fighters.

    Did you see the fight?.

Not at all. Im not a fan of Canelo but ive never questioned his resume. His level of comp is top notch and he’s faced several opponents that he didnt have to.

It may not all be Crawford’s fault but his resume looks like classic cherrypicks.

Without a doubt, but I gave him a pass there, since he was somewhat unproven and they could be seen as step ups.

The way some people talk, you’d think Berbick deserved kudos for beating Ali.

Problem is it didn’t matter that you had it a draw or I had Krusher winning by 2 the judges had canelo winning so that his is why these threads keep popping up

I did see the fight and it was pretty close going into the last couple of rounds but knowing that kovalev is a well known gasser canelo knew he might knock him out late. It wasn't a walk in the park but it doesn't have to be when you are unbeatable on the cards.

I thought something wasn't right the other day when canelo was 1/4 with the bookies, that can't be right for a guy coming up two weights to fight a supposed killer.
