Is canelo the biggest cherry picker in the game?

I asked why was canelo a huge favourite before the fight. It's not a trick question.

It's not so much that he's a cherry-picker, more so that he's been taking calculated risks for years. GGG was a legit opponent, but Canelo wanted no parts of him, until Brook and Jacobs made him look like less of a killer, than what he was made out to be. He tried to put a rehydration clause on Jacobs. He had Kovalev fighting less than 2 months after a match, in which he was nearly knocked out, and still bothered to put a rehydration clause on him too. It's like there's always a catch with Canelo. It could be a catchweight, rehydration clause, quick turnaround or crooked judges. I find it very irritating.

Didn't really mean to imply canelo isn't privileged now, all cash cows are. I meant from the start of his career, climbing the ranks. He's more or less earned some privilege. I just want to talk boxing in here and it's every time I do it's just non stop biased hatred. Its disappointing. no hate for any fighter from me. I just want to discuss in ring merits but maybe that's asking too much from too many

He’s certainly no cherry picker, if we’re measuring his choice of opponents when compared to genuine cherry pickers. Tyson Fury’s last 2 opponents are true cherry picks for example.

Having said that, he and his team are very calculative at selecting big fights as of late. Kovalev is a great name, but seemed ripe for the taking, at the twilight of his career, coupled with a rehydration clause. The weakest of the belt holders.

Fielding. Again, the weakest of the belt holders, and again a rehydration clause.

Jacobs. No complaints, but there was still a rehydration clause.

GGG. Again, at the twilight of his career, though still regarded as the best at 160.

Ha, that’s still one hell of a list. I mean, forgetting the timing of the fights, and rehydration clauses, it’s actually head and shoulders above anything else.

I can't deny he's earned his shots since the M Hatton title farce.

And I asked numerous questions that you kept twisting till we got here. So what if he was the favorite?, the fight still proved to be far more competitive with Kovalev leading for the majority. Do you even know what a cherry pick fight looks like?.

Sure, we get it. You don’t like Alvarez and will find anything to keep your hate alive.

I agreed that it was a competitive fight but I explained canelo doesn't have to be winning the fight because he's going to win on the cards anyway. The Khan fight was competitive until he landed the right hand, you probably say that wasn't a cherry pick. Just because a fight ends up being competitive doesn't mean it's not a cherry pick.

160 should be off the table at this point

Call it cherry picking if you like, but it's still far more than anything Loma or Crawford have done. Particularly lately.

Usyk is slightly more accomplished but Gassiav and Breides don't hold up to canelos resume

Pretty sure you would be crapping on Loma if he chose the easiest of titlists to fight.

Wasn't Rigo his best opponent? He was older than Kovalev when they fight and only had 3 fights in the previous 2 years.

Oh please, the Khan fight was one-sided from the start. No one sane gave Khan any rounds in that one with the exception of the first, if you want to be kind that is. A cherry picked opponent is an opponent designed to be countered and dominated with ease, like Khan clearly was. That is what a cherry pick looks like. This was hardly one and it proved so. Even prior to the fight the majority picked Kovalev to win and questioned Alvarez’ sanity for taking this fight. Now that it’s over and the result is final it’s a cherry pick?.

Cherry picks can go wrong. There are whole threads dedicated to it if you're interested.

Indeed, yet a cherry picked opponent is rarely picked by fans prior to fights because they are publicly and clearly known to being cherry. Last i remember the majority voted for Kovalev to win this. Not exactly cherry material and neither was the fight itself.
