I get all that, but cherry picking invovles a fighter literally "picking" a opponent that he thinks is weak and can beat. When an opponent calls your promotion and picks you that's not cherry-picking.

Canelo fought nothing but cans. /sarcasm

Who has a better resume in recent memory?

Khan requested it and got picked. Simple as that. They surely weren’t going to call a Welterweight out and ask him to move up.

There is no doubt that Canelo is a cherry picker, however that doesn't mean that he is not a very skilled fighter with heart as he showed in the second GGG fight. He and his team knew that Kov was ripe for the picking and that's why he was chosen. I think that they took it a little farther with Kov in that he was aware that he was gonna lose because he didn't fight, he sparred and allowed himself to be knocked out. I saw Canelo with his chin in the air on several occasions and Kov never took the shot. One thing about Mayweather is that I never saw him in a fight were his opponent didn't give 100% in an attempt to win. When you watch boxing for as long as many posters have in their lifetimes then you know a fight when you see one and that was no fight.

So going up 2 weight divisions against a faded but still very dangerous belt holder is now consider a cherry pick?

Khan wanted that work. Canelo didn't pick Khan from a list of fighters and say "hey here's a guy that's weak I want an easy knockout so I pick Khan". On the contrary, Khan sought him out asked him for a fight and Canelo obliged.

If all boxers cherrypicked like Canelo boxing would be a more exciting sport.

Again, what is your obsession with Lomachenko?

    We aren't talking about him.

If (which you obviously do) you have some axe to grind about Lomachenko then start a thread.

He has to pick a fighter that is actually willing to fight him. He can't force someone that doesn't want to fight. With Canelo being the money man right now it would be hard to find someone who would not fight him! Heck, I would gladly take the money and find myself a cozy spot on the canvas (also I'm the right age for ginger).
Your logic is just faulty, Canelo is not the one being picked, he does the picking, as he emphasized when Oscars wishes did not meet his.
So yes, Khan was a cherry pick.

Don't worry he'll be fighting Artur Beterbiev next.

As much as I have some issues with Canelo, it's the nature of the beast once a boxer becomes the sport's top draw they have the financial muscle and profile to load the dice to varying degrees. It's happened throughout the history of modern boxing.

There some things I wish he didn't sanction though, and that's short camps for opponents (Kovalev was given the date so soon after the Yarde fight, but you can be sure Canelo was preparing for it well in advance) and rehydration clauses at the higher weights, especially when you consider he used massive rehydration between weigh-in and fight at the lower weights to his advantage.
