The "kid" is 20 years old and he boxes with the patience and ring intelligence of a willy veteran. His combinations are crisp, fluid and well placed. His defense is suprisingly solid for a Mexican fighter. He also like a good Mexican fighter has great body work which is often neglected by younger inexperienced fighters.

I am trying to think of another 20 year old that i have seen perform with such coolness inside the ring. He is well ahead of the curve and can really only get better.

Are we looking at the next possible boxing superstar?

Benitez was in his prime at 20.
Vargas boxed real smart vs Campas.
Barrera and Morales were pretty schooled and top contenders already at that age..
    Tyson was peaking.
    Ever seen Mando Ramos fight?

BUt as far as recently yes i think Canelo is the most complete 20 yr old in quite awhile.

he has a lot of promise yes.

Although, id like to see him fight a boxer who puts the pressure on him.

Rhodes fought at such a slow tempo, that Saul was relaxed. However put him in with and aggressive fighter who puts the pressure on, and you might see a differant result.

Although i agree that he has great potential. Most Complete ever for a 20 year old is what you call massively overhyping.

I'm gonna say Mike Tyson for one was more complete at 20. As was Floyd Mayweather.

Benitez was the one i thought of but only because i have heard and know he won his title at 17 so i would assume he was well schooled in order to do that. I am too young to have actually followed it.
    Vargas was pretty good too.
Barrera and Morales well are legends.
    Tyson is also another legend.

So basically we are coming to the conclusion that Canelo is on his way to becoming a legend of his own.

I would like to see him with a prime fighter putting pressure on him. Last guy who tried to pressure Canelo was Baldomir and we all saw how that ended. As shot as he was he always had a great chin and had never been out like that. Canelo was the first to do it.

I am not saying he is the most complete ever but from what i have seen he is at the top. Also remember I am only 24 years old. I am talking about guys i have seen in my era not youtube type of stuff.

i like the way you put that. alot of people on here are quick to cite from old clips or just say generic stuff.

i'm 24 too soo even tyson was too soon for me, and floyd. I'd say on that note, he is probably the best 20 year old i have ever seen in my era of watching boxing (8 years)

    Same here.
If the Angulo fight gets made and he beats him which i think is a tough one as i rate Angulo very highly (He is one dimensional but that one dimension is very good) he will get alot of props from me.

I have a feeling the Mayorga fight is whats next for him on September since its independence and Mayorga can sell a fight very well. Which i mean is not all so bad as Mayorga usually brings it and the top 154(Cotto) just fought him so its justifiable.

Cuevas is right there too..But not cuz he was polished..He was just one of the greatest punchers of all time and relentless, Cuevas was at his peak already and was the top dog at WW at the time.

Hearns was also alreadyy a top ww at 20 with a win over the respected Harold Weston..

ODLh only had 11 fights but had already beaten Dorsey, jeff Mayweather and though still green.. Could already beat most of the JL and was already world clsss.

Yey well it looks that way.... unless he burns out like Vargas or the party amimal Mando Ramos.... 2 guys who were very good but fell short of being an atg... Good thing is that he dont have Mandos Bad habits...And hopefully they dont rush Canelo like they did Vargas..And put him in there with a Martinez,May or PAc quite yet..

his chin was a question coming into the rhodes fight and i believe the cotto punch may have been a fluke. he doesn't have the one punch power but neither did the hitman until es took over for him. he may need an es or roach to fully develop him.

the rhodes fight showed a lot for canelo. this is a very talented division and some great fights to look foward to.
