For starters, I base my Legends on being top 10 in their respective divisions history. Maybe top 15 depending on how rich and historic the division is i.e. Heavyweight. Jr Middle is a relatively new division. Canelo def makes top 10 in the divisons history, but does he make Top 5? Top 5 in the division in my opinion in no particular order are: Terry Norris, Trinidad, Winky, Hearns and McCallum. Let me know if there is anyone who you feel could be a substitute for any of those guys. I think Canelo has the tools and toughness to beat Norris and maybe Wright. I think a Middle weight Canelo beats a middle weight Trinidad.
I have not done real deep rankings of the ******* divisions, so don’t have a real good feel for where I would rate him there....I think he is great....but most of classic hates him so don’t expect much positive interaction on this thread. Edit: h2h is a waste of time based upon what people like. I don’t rate anyone based upon who they may have beaten in hypothetical imaginary fights that never happen. But Canelo would be competitive with anyone from any era. Whether he wins or not depends on how much you like/dislike him I guess
Who has Alvarez beat at 154 to deserve such a high ranking? Mayweather beat him at 154, does he deserve to be ranked in the top four at 154?
As the saying goes, you can only beat the fighters who are there for you to fight in your respective era. Mayweather only had two fights at the weight to the best of my knowledge, and that was Oscar and Canelo. So no i do not think Mayweather could be fairly ranked in a division that he did not consistently compete at.
Come on......McGregor? Cotto only had 7 or 8 fights there. Canelo had over 40 fights at 154. I'd say that gives him a legitimate claim in the division. Even if you did want to include Cotto, I'd still consider Canelo the better fighter at 154 and I'm a Big Cotto fan!
No, not even close. The Duran who mauled Davey Moore would kill Canelo, I doubt Canelo would survive John Mugabi at 154
154Ibs was the old Middleweight limit, so it'd also include Nonpareil Jack Dempsey, Bob Fitzsimmons, Kid McCoy, Tommy Ryan, and Stanley Ketchell.
Benitez beat Duran and Hope at 54. Name Canelos two best wins at that weight. Winky beat Shane X2 and Trinidad.
