I've seen him fight, and considering the technical flaws in his style, he looks easy to beat. Does that make him a paper champion? That ignominious distinction is usually reserved for beltholders who duck tough opponents. It would appear that Froch isn't ducking anybody and he has been calling out everybody under the sun. Why is he having problem getting the big fights? :huh
Because he's dangerous and doesn't have a big name. If he beats them then they slip lower down the pecking order $$$
He's been avoided more than almost any current fighter. Probably because he has a granite chin and big punch and thus VERY difficult to beat
A paper champion is a guy who has a belt handed to him, ie he hasn't fought the actually champion. Since in this case Calzaghe vacated and he fought Pascal for the vacant belt, yes, he is a paper champion. However, that isn't to say he isn't a good champion. He'd lose fights at 168 for sure, possibly Taylor, definately Kessler, but the guy has damaging power, an iron chin and a good long jab from range, with good stamina, so he'd be a tough fight for anybody.
Maybe, but I tend to think not. Froch has some decent attributes, like good power and a granite chin. He would be competitve against almost anyone at 168, IMO.
No -- he's a belt holder that still needs to prove himself. Sturm is a paper champion. Froch does not fit into that mold.
It is not unusual for punchers to have a cast iron jaw. Don't let them hit you and out box them for a win on points. Boxers have been doing that for over a hundred years.
thtas the problem though they can be outboxed but they always have a chance of knocking out the guy they are fighting and if you a guy like froch you are seen as high risk low reward.
If you're talking of nowadays, I would say Froch is calling everyone, knowing he can't even fight them because he has two mandatories to make. He can call Bute or Kessler all he wants, he cannot fight them. Knowing it, he looks brave and courageous. He should try to call one of the big guys when he is available. Otherwise, I agree with Booradley, he's not a paper champ but he still has to prove himself.
Easier said then done when you have a physically strong guy coming at you, cutting the ring off for a whole 12 rounds, a whole 36 minutes, wearing you down with punches while you have to try and find some room to move, and are exhausted.
Froch has been avoided a lot and will knock out the likes of taylor and bute but I think kessler would beat him.
Agreed, I think Taylor would make him look amaturish. And the big names are looking for big names, Froch has no draw in the US.
Yes by technical definition. Good fighter and I look forward to him getting tested. Taylors a real good start.
