Look at the list of opponents froch has faced since capturing the World Title, then compare it to the list of nobodies Calzaghe fought ( all in the UK ).

As for Johnson and Mack, well Froch was contracted to the Super Six and Johnson was the semi final opponent, as for Mack why shouldn't Froch have taken a " Gimme " after several tough fights and immediately following the Bute fight which many thought he'd lose.

Calzaghe does not have a better resume than Froch. As I said there is a reason Joe is viewed as a joke outside the UK, no matter how you slice it and dice it you know Calzaghe has an average resume, and you know he spent his prime years feasting on average fighters. At the end of the day perception rules the day and the perception is that Calzaghe was a protected fighter.

A good post, and a fair post IMO.

I don't question what Calzaghe was capable of, and/or who he may have beaten at his best, but he spent his best years making joke defenses against joke opposition when he should have and could have tested himself.

i would add a prime Eubank to that list too. I think a prime herol graham would have beat them both too, well maybe if he didnt fail at the final hurdle again.

Calzaghe has a far greater resume

    Lets compare

    Frochs best wins
    1. Very faded Kessler is arguably Frochs best win, Calzaghe beat Kessler when prime and undefeated

    2. Bute. A good win for Froch, but I would struggle to put it above Lacy who Calzaghe beat

    3. Frochs next best wins are debateable as Dirrell, Groves, Pascal havent done much at SMW.
I will say Magee as Magee has more pedigree at SMW and Magee was beaten when prime and undefeated by Calzaghe victim Reid

    4. Dirrell maybe? Dirrell hasnt done much at SMW and done less than Mkertchyan, but that may throw you, so I will say its not as good a win as Woodhall

    5. Abraham? Abraham has a win over Steiglitz but isnt as good a SMW win as 2 time champ Mitchell

    6. Taylor, hasnt done much at SMW and not as good a win as Brewer who was a SMW champ

    7. Groves isnt really much different to Calzaghes win over Starie

    8. Johnson, was faded and beaten when prime by Sheika who Calzaghe beat

Calzaghe still has wins over SMW champs Eubank, Veit, Bika, Reid
Froch doesnt have any wins as good as undefeated Kessler or Eubank.
Then Calzaghe has his LHW wins which I havent included

Here is an old post of someone elses which I dont think is 100% correct and there is another champ that could be added

Do people rate Froch higher because Calzaghe was often expected to win and Froch due to often being outboxed, has people believing his wins are more epic, because arguably Frochs best win is faded Kessler

The fact that you mentioned Starie as credible was hilarious. The Super Middleweight era when Joe fought was weak. Plus he didn't want to fight Ottke, so he fought his leftovers. You also mention Woodhall like he's an impressive win lol.

    To answer this question.

He's the best British SMW ever to nationalistic English people who hate Wales.

H2H Joe vs Froch - Only one winner
Resume vs Joe - again only one winner
Joe would have beat Ward - Froch stood no chance.

If people want to deny Joe as the best, they're biased idiots who put their agenda above the history books.
