With Joe Calzaghe now taking on a near mythical status in some peoples eyes, I thought it would be interesting to see how his latest rival measures up to the myths that surround Joe. Calzaghe Myth 1 Joe, at 36, will only fight over the hill former greats who are long past their best. Chad, at 26, only fought over the hill former not bads last year in Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver. Calzaghe Myth 2 Joe was lucky to get a decision against Hopkins, 7 years his senior. Chad, on the other hand, was lucky to get a decision over Glen Johnson, 13 years his senior ..AND Johnson didnt cheat. Calzaghe Myth 3 Joe has never fought a top fighter in their prime ..if you go away and think about it for long enough you can come up with some bull**** that says even Kessler and Lacy were ****/ too green or whatever. Dawson, on the other hand, genuinely has never fought a top fighter in their prime .closest to it was Tomasz Adamek who was struggling to make the weight and hasnt fought at LHW since. Calzaghe Myth 4 If Joe retires, he is ducking Chad Dawson who is mandated to fight him, according to HBO. Chad genuinely DID refuse to fight Adrian Diaconu who actually WAS mandated to fight him by the WBC and got stripped of his belt for it. I could go on. Your thoughts please?
this is a legit question...lol...ill agree with the poster that said this a lil while back(cant remember his name)....dawsons resume 18 months into his "reign" at age 26 is as impressive as joes 9 years into his....lol....lacy is/was a bum....pretty sure jermain will end him....kessler....he looks the part....young, built, technically sound, and decent power....but its pretty obvious this guy lacks the heart and desire to be a real champ....lol...hausler...and his own promoter intentionally losing the bid cause he knew it was a farce
myth 1 billy k has been thinking too much. myth 2 billy k needs to get a girlfriend. myth 3 billy k get a ****ing life. this **** is bollocks.
tarver=biggest payday of chads career....he has quite a few financial backers and a name on the resume....beaten both of the roy conquerers....good way to help pay them back....if joe doenst fight him...where else does he go...hell have to choice but to fight diaconu
Just look at Dawsons other 2 defences, his first 2: Jesus Ruiz (19-4-0 going into fight) and Epifanio Mendoza (28-4-1) Pretty much show up Robin Reid, Mario Veit or Byron Mitchell, never mind Kessler and Lacy for exactly what they are. (i.e. pretty worthy title challengers at least ehen you compare them to who else gets a go.)
I'll try and dig out a picture of me later, you can make bitchy comments about my haircut and fashion sense as well, if that's what floats your boat.
As inadequate as the alphabet bodies are fighters still need to make their name somehow in order to get the recognition to get on the likes of HBO. IBF especially seem to have an endless line of mickey mouse contenders but surely its not asking too much for Chad to fight ONE live, fresh opponent in 18 months. Even Calzaghe has fought Kessler in that time.
My point exactly. Ruiz and Mendoza are Chads two fights before Tarver and Johnson. Diaconu is new WBC LHW belt holder, still unbeaten, Dawson wouldn't fight him for over a year.
Yep. The next fight Adamek fought -- only 4 months after he fought Dawson -- Tomasz weighed 23.75 lbs more. That's right, This content is protected . Adamek vs Dawson: 174 lbs Adamek vs Pineda : 197 3/4 lbs And Adamek wasn't fat in the Pineda fight. And, he mysteriously got his power back, KO'ing Pineda in 7 rounds. Oddly enough, he was more active than he was 24 pounds lighter 4 months earlier. That is, the extra weight helped him. This wasn't some James Toney buffet special. See for yourself: [yt][/yt] Yet, he still dropped Chad in his weakened state. Anyone who thinks you're adding 24 pounds of muscle in 4 months doesn't understand training or thinks Adamek is doing 'roids. The much more plausible explanation? Adamek killed himself to make weight for the Dawson fight, and it nixed any chance he had to win or at least perform at his best. This is a point I have tried, repeatedly, to make to the Roy Jones and Chad Dawson nuthuggers. If you listen to the Roy Boyz, Jones essentially died and was resurrected feebly from cutting a mere 18 pounds (after not having fought for 10 months, no less) to fight Tarver the first time. Planets were shattered; Roy's transcendant greatness forever removed because of this weight drop. How much weight do you think Adamek kept off for the Dawson fight? How badly was he starving himself to show up nearly 25 pounds heavier the next time he fought, just 16 or so weeks later? Why didn't he suck against Pineda like Roy did after Roy cut 18 pounds with 10 months to do it when Tomasz may have been keeping around 25 pounds off of himself? Yet, he still dropped Chad. Dawson's other great wins were against guys in the last fight of their careers (Harding), guys who were more shot than the deer who your neighbor just got done dressing (Tarver) and a 39 year old who many feel Chad lost to (Johnson). In other words, the insanely weight-drained guy and three over-the-hill-gangers. There is no Calzaghe's Kessler in here, in other words. That is, a guy in his prime who is fighting at a weight his body is comfortable making (Kessler didn't show up in his next fight post-Calzaghe at 191.75 lbs, to help make the point) I should also mention Harding also dropped Dawson. Don't believe the super-hype about Dawson. He's still the guy that ran like a chump from Diaconu rather than keep his WBC belt and he's still taking large portions of rounds off, holding his right hand low and brandishing a glass jaw as we speak.
